What can I take?

I'm planning on calling the nurse line at my hospital to ask this later, but anybody know what I can take/have any recommendations for meds? I have a sinus infection and can barely breathe comfortably.

On the bright side, hot chocolate makes me feel a little better (temporarily of course) and adding a little cinnamon to it makes it even yummier :D

  • I have had the same thing for a little over a week.  I have just been drinking decaf herbal teas.  It seems to help me.  I am not a big fan of taking med's, even when I'm not pregnant.

  • I had a sinus infection and was told to use the Neti-pot, hot compresses and take claritin. None of that worked, so they suggested Mucinex, which also didn't work. They finally decided to start me on antibiotics after a week of unbearable pain. So make sure you get this fixed early on or you'll be in much more pain!!

  • Claratin, Mucinex and Nasonex (you'll need a script for the last).

I used to get chronic sinus infections.  The nasal steroid spray makes all the difference.  Claratin and Mucinex are perfectly safe.  The Nasonex is an unknown, but my OB felt it was a better option than antibiotics because it gets sprayed directly where the problem is and has less of a systemic impact than antibiotic pills.

I'm this way also... But I can't sleep and its even starting to hurt when I open my mouth to eat/talk. Otherwise I just push through most things.

  • I have been having serious sinus headaches, but not a full on infection. The neti-pot has worked wonders for me throughout my pregnancy. Woke up feeling TERRIBLE today - used the neti pot as soon as I got out of the shower and then took Tylenol for the pain. Haven't had any problems since this morning.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Are you sure Mucinex is okay during pregnancy? I'm normally a huge Mucinex fan when sick but I'm like 99% sure my dr said not to take it because it can drastically mess with your cervical mucus. Just a thought.

My doctor told me I could take Sudafed and Zyrtec for nasal/sinus congestion.

  • You can take Benadryl too and it has the bonus of making you sleepy.
