3rd Trimester

when did LO go head down for you?

My dr checked to see if LO was head down @ my appt Mon but not yet.  It seems like LO is maybe part way there though.  based on movement & being able to feel baby when I push on my bump, I think the head is pointed towards my right hip.  I know babies can turn @ anytime & turn back, but I also know the closer it gets & the bigger they get, the harder it is.

  • I am not sure when it happened but my LO was head down at 28 weeks. Of course that doesn't mean that he will stay that way. :)

Same for me.  Not sure if he's staying that way or just happened to be head down when I asked the doctor.  And he said he could flip still so it's not guaranteed.

For those worried about breech babies, my cousin has a 3 week old now and she was breech until about 38 weeks and then she flipped on her own and was born vaginally so it isn't impossible!

  • I had my 37 weeks checkup yesterday and my LO is still doing her own thing! She is NOT head down. Doc doesn't seem to be worried about it until it comes time!

  • LO has been head down at every ultrasound appointment (most recently was 28 weeks). I don't know if she's ever been in any other position.
  • LO was head down at my last appointment at 31 weeks.

  • We were in L&D at 23weeks when we thought my water had broke and he was head down then. He's been head down ever since. At 18w he was somersaulting during our anatomy u/s...so I don't think that counts as head down. :)

  • My LO was head down at 28 weeks when we did an ultrasound then.  He's stayed that way since then.  I'm 37.5 weeks now, and very ready for him to come out. =)  My OB says they can turn all the way until 35 weeks, but after that it becomes too cramped for them to move.  I'm sure he'll turn downward soon.

  • My little guy has been head down since about 25 weeks. But he "dropped" a bit last weekend--my OB can now feel his head when checking my cervix.

They really can turn at any time. I wouldn't worry quite yet :)

  • I don't remember completely with my daughter but at our 3D scan with her at 27 weeks, she was angled funny.  Her head was dug deep into my right hip area.  Her butt was wedged up and under my left ribs and her feet were under my right ribs.  By 40 weeks she was head down but pressed hard against my spine and I had nasty back labor....lots of pressure on my tailbone.
  • This DD has been head down all along (every appt HB is found very low and at every u/s she is head down).  DD#1 didn't turn head down until a few days shy of 36 weeks.

This! He was head down at the 20 week and 26 week ultrasounds and is still head down, if he has been in any other position I haven't been able to tell.

  • DD #1 was head down every appt and never really moved.

This one has been feet down and is now butt down.  I hope she turns, but so far has been staying in the same position.

  • Mine was always transverse but sometime after 30 weeks went head down. She still flips around though, by her hiccups I could tell she was breech on two occassions last week but she flipped back to the head down position.

I wouldn't worry, they move a lot in there.

Same here.  We tried an ECV, but at my 37wk appt yesterday, LO is comfortably hanging out with her head right up in my ribs!

  • Mine has been head down for every ultrasound up until 27 weeks. (I'm seeing a perinatologist, so I get extra ultrasounds.)  Then on Monday, it showed the baby is breech...  I can feel the baby's head right under my left ribcage.  My son was also breech, and I had a c-section.  My doctors say they are not concerned until 32 weeks.

  • Not sure exactly when it happened but at my 20 week ultrasound, baby was breech but still had tons of room to flip over & over again. By my 34th week appointment, baby was head down and has stayed that way. I'm really short (4'11") so there's not a lot of room to keep flipping at this point.

Check out spinningbabies for ideas for flipping. You've got time but you're right, it's easier to encourage baby into the right position now.

This. Discounting the first ultrasound where she resembled a bean and had no discernible 'head', she's been head down ever since. *shrug*

  • My LO has been head down at every appt. since week 22 & I've never felt her flip. (I get weekly ultrasounds b/c I'm highrisk)
