D.C. Area Babies

**SoonToBeMrsDTS**

Hi!  Random question for you: do you still go to Ebenezer UMC?  We actually went to church today (can't believe we made it out of the house in time for the 9:30 service!) and took Caitlin.  She did pretty well but she got hungry and fussy during the sermon.  Is there a place to nurse in the church?  I went to the bathroom closest to the sanctuary but didn't see a chair.  I nursed her for a few minutes standing up until I could get back to the car at the end of the service.  Just wondering...  hope you are doing well!  I don't know how you all do this mommy stuff with 2 or more kids, I can barely function some days with one :)

  • Yup, we still go! We didn't make it today though, both of my kids have colds:( There is no specific place unfortunately. I have gone to the baby nursery and they've let me nurse there, I just turn the rocking chair towards the wall, it doesn't bother me if there are just women around. There's a play area off of the toddler nursery that they don't use during the service that is closed off. I've been sent there as a more private place to go if you don't want anyone around (with DD I was a lot more modest than this time around!) I've seen women BFing in the narthex before with blankets but I don't feel comfortable doing that. And just so you know, once your ready to send her to the nursery alone, the women in there are SO great. I love love love Kim who is the one in charge of the baby nursery. I promise it'll get easier:)

  • Thanks!  I'll use the nursery next time or just sit in the narthex.  I have a really nice nursing cover-up that's so cute I don't mind breaking it out :)  My mother-in-law kept getting me scarfs thinking those would work (DD already moves her arms around and knocks them off!) so I went online and got an "official" cover-up.  Anyway, I'm sure we'll use the nursery soon enough.  We're still thinking about joining but haven't done anything official yet.  I definitely want to get her baptized, what age did you do that for your kids if you did it?
  • We got Gabby baptized when she was 8 months old. Nolan will be 6 months. I think you have to go to a "Coffee with the Pastor" before you can join. You can then join that night or you can join in front of the church on any Sunday (you could do it the same day you get your daughter baptized if you want).

  • Thanks for the info - we were going to go to the coffee night back in September but I got really busy with school and getting ready for the baby.  I think we'll plan on baptizing sometime in the spring.  My DH is technically Catholic and his parents are (I think!) fine with us not going Catholic but his grandmother keeps asking when the baptism will be :)
