Postpartum Depression

help with zoloft

hello

I have been struggling with PPD for about 6 months now, and I made an app with my family doctor at public health services here in Mexico, but they gave me the appointment until January 20th 2012! I waited so long because I was afraid but I couldn't take it anymore, so I bought Zoloft and have been taking 25mg since last Thursday... I have been feeling a bit better, but now I',m scared, I don't know what to do, keep taking them until my appointment? or stop and wait for an actual prescription... I have been told that it is dangerous to take this type of medicine without the supervision of a doctor, but I fear if I stop using them I'll feel worse... any suggestions? I'm very scared.

Btw... doctor is only available at the appointments, there is no phone number to ring him/her, and I am going to the public health services because I cant really afford to pay for a private practice, nor my health insurance covers psychiatrists... Thank you so much

Re: help with zoloft

  • My Dr told me NEVER to just stop these kinds of meds.

  • Do not discontinue the med at this point. Even at only 25 the dose is enough to effect you mentally if you stop cold turkey.

I am glad you are already starting to feel a bit better. It can take 2-3 weeks for you to feel a difference. In the long run, once you see the Dr. I am betting they will be able to gauge your reactions to the medication. Thus have a better idea of what dose you need.
