Advent Calendars

If you use or have seen an advent calendar that you love, please share!  We are looking for something nice to utilize each year.  Thanks!

Re: Advent Calendars

  • My mom just gave me one this year!  It's wooden and similar to this...she put stickers in the doors for the kids this year.

  • Ours was a gift, but I'm fairly certain it's from Home Goods or some place like that.  It's wood and you fill the little spaces behind the doors with whatever you want.  It's cute.  I like pp's in the shape of a Christmas tree - ours is the shape of house.

  • I saw this nativity one in a catalog and liked the idea even though it was pricey because it's magnetic - I figured even small kids could enjoy placing the figures around wherever they want.  Plus I thought it was kind of a nice way to remind them what Christmas is about since it is a nativity vs. a tree with gifts.  FWIW, I always loved the chocolate ones Stick out tongue

  • I got one from LL Bean last year.  It's a little ski lodge.  I don't think they carry it anymore, but it was really cute (although $$).  It's personalized with our name on the sign on the porch.  It's also on a pedestal so it spins.

  • I love that LL Bean one! So cute!

We have a wooden one with doors and individual little drawers for each day that I bought from Target on the day after Christmas a few years ago for 50% off. If you don't need a fancy one this year, I highly recommend using a cheapo one this year and shopping for a nice one after Christmas. Trader Joe's has the cheapo kind for $1!

On a side note, my kid keeps pointing at our advent calendar and saying "more! more!" He doesn't quite understand the "one chocolate per day" thing yet.  Tongue Tied  And now I wish I'd thought of stickers instead of chocolate!

My 4 1/2 year old fully understands the one day at a time concept, and yet keeps sneaking peeks at the other future days anyway - sneaky girl!  I think I need to put it up out of her reach.

  • Here are some I found online from etsy.  I ordered the Advent Block (more like a countdown).  Love the stocking garland.

I've also seen people raving about the Lego ones.

  • Fair Trade Winds in Fairfax has one that I am dying to have. It is all soft figures in 25 pouches that forms a nativity scene. It is $80+, but it is the advent calendar I have been dreaming of!
