Can you still wear your rings?

I'm dreading the day that I need to take my wedding rings off, but so far, my fingers are completely the same as before I was pregnant.  I'm wondering if I lucked out because my one sister-in-law had to take her rings off by the second month, but my other one never did.  If you had to take them off, when did you?  Is it likely to get through a whole pregnancy without needing to take them off?

Re: Can you still wear your rings?

  • I wore my rings until about 34 weeks with my DD. I didn't swell very much though. Some people swell like crazy early.

  • I wore my rings all through my pregnancy but I was pregnant during the winter in NC.  I also did not swell at all -don't hate ;)
  • Mine still fit like normal. When the day comes that I can't wear them I still plan on wearing a band that I have that's a bit bigger so that my wedding ring finger won't feel naked.

  • I haven't had any swelling yet, so I've noticed no change in my rings.  I expect that because it's so cold here, I won't have much issue over the winter.  Once it starts to warm up and I get bigger, I bet there will be more swelling...
  • I check mine daily and so far, so good!

  • Some days are worse than others when I have to use lotion or something to get it off.  Its been okay so far.

When it gets worse I plan on getting a fake ring at target or something in a larger size because I'm not comfortable not wearing a wedding band.

  • I had to stop wearing my rings around 24 weeks with DS, but that was in the middle of summer. This time, so far so good.

  • I think it's mostly bloat and/or swelling that leads to this issue.  My fingers haven't changed at all yet, thankfully!

  • I can still wear mine, but take them off when I get home each day.  Like a PP said, if I get to where I can't wear mine, I will get a cheap band or something.   I just feel weird not wearing them out in public.

  • Wore my rings throughout my whole pregnancy with DD and still wearing them so far with this one.  Luckily I don't seem to have any swelling/bloating issues!

  • I haven't been wearing my wedding ring for almost a month. My sister's fingers swelled up when she was pregnant and she still can't get them off 6 months after she had the baby. Not only is she going to have to get them cut off, but she bent the part that holds the center stone so now it's crooked! That was enough to convince me not to try to cram my finger into my rings! It doesn't really bother me that I can't wear it (is that bad? lol).  I can however wear my right hand rings still because they were kind of big to begin with.

  • I've been wearing my engagement ring on a chain around my neck for the last month. It still fits but I'm terrified of one day waking up and not being able to take it off. I love my ring because it's obvious how much thought FI put in to choosing it, so having to have it cut off would make me feel awful.

  • Mine still fit great!  My friend (who says she was fat and sick from the moment she peed on the stick) couldn't wear hers beyond 1st tri!  Everyone is different.

  • Yes, mine are actually a little loose right now so I have some wiggle room. I'm sure I'll have to take them off at some point, I think last time around it was around 32 weeks.

  • Getting uncomfortable to wear them. But I'm also swollen already. And that's also because I most likely have pre-e again, like I did with DS...where I had 25-30lb of pure fluid that I gained. Booo....

  • i'm still wearing mine - my fingers aren't noticeably swollen at all.

I know some women who can wear them the whole time and some who can't. I don't assume i'll have to take them off.

  • Mikne were resized twice before pregnancy for being to big and yet they still dont fit theres a good looseness still to both rings.  Hopefully they tighten a bit.,

  • With DD I never had to take my rings off. I didn't experience swelling in my hands. I only took them off before we went to the hospital, in case I needed a c-section and they wouldn't come off at the time.

And with this pregnancy so far so good!

  • Mine are actually falling off my finger. I have caught them once.  They slide and turn all the time and it annoys me.  I am hoping I dont have to take them off. I wear them 24/7

  • My rings are still fitting just fine but that could be because it is FREEZING where I live so my hands are not swelling at all.

  • I'm a weirdo who loses weight during pg b/c of all the vomiting and m/s so I hate to say this but with my son, I wore my rings until the day i delivered.  Lately I've noticed that they are actually feeling kind of loose :(
  • With my pregnancy for DD the only time I took off my ring was when I had the IV put in at the hospital.  So far my hands have not swelled at all.  Looking forward to wearing them again the whole pregnancy.

  • I wore my rings the entire time I was pregnant with DS. I was lucky I only had swelling in my feet. I'll wear them trough this whole pregnancy if possible, too.

  • That's true... I live in upstate New York, winters are freezing here!  Mine are on the loose side now, so I'm hoping I don't have to take them off.  I agree though, if I have to, I'm getting a fake ring, it would feel strange without something on there.
  • I just took mine off today. I could still get them on and off, but my whole ring finger was super itchy! I guess I'm developing a sensitivity to the metal.

  • So far so good for me - I check daily because of all the posts on here (getting paranoid about yet another thing!!)

Agree with PPs that I'll be getting a basic band if I end up not being able to wear my rings, it just feels wrong without anything there.

  • I can no longer wear my rings as of this week.  I have been looking into cheap alternatives until I lose the pregnancy bloat.

  • I have had no problems so far, but with my last pregnancy i refused to take them off and ended up having to go to the jewelers to have them cut off :( It was horrible. Good luck!

  • Still wearing them and it helps that the weather is freezing and my fingers shrink up!  I am hoping to make it through most of the pregnancy but have no shame in taking them off before I need to get them cut off!

  • Mine are a half size big because my hands will randomly swell, so they're usually pretty loose.  I had to send my wedding band in to get a diamond tightened last week, so I sent my engagement ring to get re-rhodium plated, too (my skin is really acidic and eats white gold super fast).  That was a week ago, and I still have indents on my finger from where they were...  I guess I'm swelling more than I thought!

  • Mine are actually loose right now since it's colder. I never had an issue with them with DS. Wore them the whole time!
