We're going next weekend! I'm excited and (of course) nervous. I'd like to take a couple small Christmas gifts for her kids (9 and 4 years old) and maybe something for BM&F. The lawyer thought this would be fine. I was thinking maybe even a gift card somewhere like Target or Wal.Mart. Any other ideas?
We'll be there Saturday night and most of the day Sunday before we have to fly home. I was thinking maybe we'd take them to dinner Saturday night, but I'm not sure what to do on Sunday. I thought I'd ask her if there is anything she'd like to do.
I feel really good about this match. She's eager to meet us and seems really committed to her adoption plan. We've talked several times and I feel like we have a nice connection. She's in a really tough spot right now and suddenly I feel kind of protective of her, which was unexpected. I really wasn't sure how I'd feel towards her.
We're going to have to sit through a long revocation period since she is part Native American, but we'll just have to deal with that and those issues as they come. I feel like we have a lot of really good people working on our behalf, so I'm just going to try and trust the process.
Re: Booked our trip to meet BM :)
That's very exciting that you have your trip coming up next weekend! I think that's nice that you want to take something with you for the family. I know that before Zoe's birthmom signed the TPR, we were told to spend under $40. Not sure if your lawyer gave you any limit like that.
What about something the kids could do together - like a puzzle or game? Or maybe art supplies?
The gift card sounds nice.
Another suggestion - I made a small 8"x8" scrapbook for Zoe's birthmom and took it to her when we met. It gave us a lot to talk about - our home, our family, our friends, etc. - and I gave it to her to keep at the end of the visit. Might be nice.
Best of luck to you!
This is a great idea! I had kind of pictured running through pictures on my iphone so she could see the baby's room, pictures of the rest of my family, etc. I would never have thought about a scrapbook. Now, if I can only find the time to work on it...
If you decide to do it, just keep it simple. Hey, you could even look into Walgreen's and see if they have a digital one you could make online and pick up at the store. It might save time. I know I'm faster on the computer.
