Dear Bump: You suck.

Re: ***First Year Check-In***

  • QOTW: fully recognizing his hands and what they can do. DS is getting close - he's starting to bat at toys and accidentally grabbing them (and then not knowing how to let go). i can see the connections slowly happening in his brain. it's pretty cool to watch.

Update: he is smiling a ton. for realz. we're also moving him up to size 2 diapers and starting to tap into his 3-6 mo clothes. i'm finding the sizes to be crazy off. some of them are 4 inches too long in the torso. do babies grow 4 inches in these months? but the 0-3 mo are like sausage casings...

  • beatrice is awesome. she is laughing and cooing all the time, plus she just has this amazingly pleasant, easy-going personality.

im looking forward to the big sloppy, open mouth kisses. and also to her having more set nap times. im not sure when that starts (i dont remember a thing about tiny babies) but i would love a designated nap schedule so rubes and i got more alone time too.

  • Update: Mags is still a happy, easy baby. She had croup over T-day, and that was followed by her first ear infection. Even with the illnesses, she was easygoing. She's sitting up unassisted for about 30 seconds before she topples.

QOTW: The next thing I'm looking forward to is the intentional hug. She's definitely getting more cuddly, but I can't wait for that part where she'll wrap her arms around my neck and snuggle.

  • i'm looking forward to when dd & ds can play more together. tonight dh and dd were wrestling around and ds started screaming/crying whenever she would jump around. we finally figured out that he wanted to "play" too and once i started flying him around the room he was laughing and playing right alongside dd. i can't wait for them to play together.

updates: ds is getting his first tooth. or maybe two! his teachers have been telling me for a while that they thought he was teething and now it looks like it's about to break through!

  • QOTW: I'm torn - her first tooth or crawling. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking forward to the crying and discomfort or to the need to childproof, but it seems like she's been so close for so long!

Update: DD started the next classroom at day care late last week...and so far I've only cried about it twice. I didn't realize how attached I had become to her teachers in the first room, and since this room is mostly mobile babies, the teachers seem to have less time to lavish attention on the babies, like she got before. She's also developed this bright red rash on her cheeks (looks like a picture of Santa they're so red), and I'm not sure what's causing it. At first I thought maybe it was the cold, or maybe she was getting some dairy out of her system from when I weaned, but it's been a week and a half since she last could've had any cow's milk proteins, and the rash is still there. Maybe eczema? I figure I'll bring it up with the pedi when we go for our 9 month appt next week. And on that note, how the heck did DD get to be 9 months?!?

  • I'm not so sure how I feel about walking, yet. Last night, she kept taking off in Costco, running straight for the stupid cart with a giant 47" flat screen TV barely perched on it. I actually asked an employee if he could move it or put it away, because she only had eyes for that thing once she saw it.

Oh oh! I got one. I'm looking forward to STTN! I know everyone was hating on me when she was sleeping a straight 12 hours a night at 7 weeks old. That ended at 6months when she got sick and I cuddled her every time she woke up. Sleeping is getting better, but I won't mention what we're doing (cough,CIO,cough). It seems to be making everyone happier, including the kiddo.

    AND ... there's my I Never. I didn't really have any, but I swore I'd never CIO.

  • QOTW: I'm really looking forward to signing with him. I love love loved signing with DD and she picked it up so quickly. It's awesome to be able to communicate with them, especially at such a young age! DD started signing back at 10 months, though, so I guess there are things I'm looking forward to before then. Like, DS enjoying eating real food. That would be cool.

Update: His croup last week turned out to be a minor case and he was sleeping normal again by the third day. Hooray! His opinion of solids continues to be along the lines of "whatthefuckdoyouwantmetodowiththat!?!?" He's starting to pull up to his knees, which is cuh-razy. And lord I hope these teeth break through soon. He's going through multiple outfits a day just from drool wetness, shoving both his hands in his mouth, etc. On the other hand, I am NOT looking forward to losing his gummy smile (and given a choice, I'd rather nurse a baby with no teeth than with teeth).

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • QOTW: Baby laughs! They are the best thing ever. I can't wait!

Update: DS has a cold. He has a nasty sounding cough but I took him to the pedi and thankfully it's just a cold. I think he's in the middle of the 6 week growth spurt as well because he wants to eat constantly and isn't sleeping well at night. He is still having issues with spit up but it obviously isn't affecting his weight. He was 14 lbs 9 oz at the doctor on Monday. He was in a onesie and diaper so I'm sure it's actually a little less than that but he's still kind of a hoss.
