Is your 3 yo in a tattle tell stage

Had a playdate Wednesday night and then a birthday party Saturday morning - DD and all her friends were coming up to the mom's constantly - "___pushed me"  "Mommy ____ hit me"  "______ not sharing"  "________ won't let me"

And, they are all so sad and pathetic about it.  I guess they are finally really playing together and learning how to regulate themselves.

  • My DD was singing a made-up song in the car the other day and threw in a line about how a girl in her class was not a good person and hurt her feelings.

She will only stop playing and "report" something if it's a battle over a toy, otherwise she just waits until the playdate (or school) is over and then gives me the full report on how so-and-so wouldn't share/hurt her feelings/isn't a nice girl, etc. in the car.

  • YES.  DD constantly tattles on DS for every little thing he does.  She also takes it upon herself to "discipline" him and tell him to go to time out.  Drives me nuts!

oh - ha!  DD's been sent to time out 2x - but she talks about t/o CONSTANTLY too.  She occassionally tells me to go to time out, but mostly she'll just repeat - "Mommy, if we don't take our shoes off, you're going to go to time out" no, not really.  Or correctly, "Mommy, if we hit our friends, we're going to go to time out"

I don't know where/why she's obsessed w/ t/o - they don't use it at her schoo and we use it very, very sparingly.

  • DD tells on the dog.  Mommy Sadie did _______.  She will also tell on people for things that happened days/weeks ago.  Drives me crazy.  We have started working on how to not be a tattle tale and when it's appropriate to tell.

  • Yes!  And it just recently started.  She even tattles on me or DH.  The other day DH was doing something for work on the computer, and she came to me and said "Mommmmyyyyyyyy, Daddy's not sharing his computer with meeeeee".

Yep.  Us, too.  Makes me feel better that it happens to everyone.

  • Ugh. Not only is DS tattling he's exaggerating/fibbing. If DH tells him no, or says something he doesn't want to hear, DS will say "mommy daddy hit me"

DD doesn't do this, but she does twist words around.  Over Thanksgiving DD was loving getting out MIL's step stool to help us cook.  One morning she asked MIL if she could get out the step stool and MIL said "I don't know, you have to ask Mommy if it's okay..." and DD came to me and said "Mommy, Nana says I need to get the step stool out."  MIL was like "I did not!!"  lol
