C-sections

2nd time moms, How did you do it with baby at home?

I will be having my c-section on a Friday and the DH gets off for one week with me. However, I'm starting to wonder what I'm going to do when I can't pick up or get on the floor with ds#1 after the section.  I remember that pain.  Any tricks? He will only be 18months so he is still in a crib and diapers.

  • Do you have someone else who can come help you for a week or two?  I was on pretty severe restrictions until 6w.

  • I only had dh home a week then my mom for a few days after DS2 came. I put the PNP in our dining room so DS2 napped in there. Not only so I wouldn't have to go up/down the stairs constantly but also to make sure he kept up with days/nights correctly.

I was fining getting on the floor with ds and pretty much spent most of my time on the floor with him or getting him on the couch with me. When I was nursing I would turn on an episode of mickey so he was distracted while I nursed DS2. After a few weeks, he just come to me with a book and want to read while I nursed DS2.

Pretty much you do what you gotta do to get through. By 2wks pp I picked up DS1 and he's a big boy for his age. I had to but I tried not to do very often and I picked him up with my legs by kneeling down to him to pick him up.

  • I've had three sections and I just didn't do much besides a light general pick up of toys for cleaning. My oldest was 16 months when my son was born and she was sleeping in a crib converted to a bed at that point. She started climbing out of the crib at 13 or 14 months, so we just converted. I slept on the couch for a few weeks because it was easier to get off the couch than out of bed. my newborn slept in the basinet part of our pack n play, which made pickin him up easier.  From what I remember, I was sore and uncomfortable for a few weeks, but as long as you don't push yourself too hard, you'll be fine.

  • The 2nd week wasn't as bad as the 1st.  DS climbed up on the couch with me a lot. I'd already moved him to a booster seat at the table so that he could get up in that on his own.  Naps were rough, I was just really careful.

  • I had to have my mom come in and help after my second and then with my third, I hired our babysitter to come and take care of my other two. It was difficult for me to come down the stairs or get out of bed easily so I knew I couldn't do it alone.
  • You improvise for those first few weeks that DH is back to work. DS took naps on the couch and ate lunch in my lap instead of the high chair. It went well.

  • Thanks ladies.  I have one friend that might come help a few hrs a day or two the second week but no family.  They all work and live 4 hrs away.  I guess it will just be a see how it goes type thing.
