It's been a while since I have posted, but I really need you awesome ladies!
We do BLW but I also get wic. Since J is 6 months now we get vouchers for 60 jars of Fruits and Veggies and 30 jars of meat. What the hell do I do with it? I know I can sub the fruit in some baking recipes but what about the veggies and meat? I am at a total loss and I already give half of it to my mom for her daycare. Whatever I don't use I'll donate but I would like to take advantage of what I have.
Help, I don't want to end up with a cupboard full of applesauce!
Re: What the heck do I do with Puree? BLW
Veggie purees would be great for making creamy soups. Cream of tomato, cauliflower, broccoli, etc, all have to be pureed anyway, so if I were you I would saute some onions, add chicken/veggie broth, add whatever veggie puree you want, season depending on the vegetable, add milk or cream, and there you have it.
No clue about the meats, though. Here they're mixed with rice already - is it the same in the States? If not, then you could see if you could find any pate recipes you feel like trying. I personally would donate those, though.

I'm sorry but what you're doing is wrong.
You qualify for WIC, acquire baby food which you're clearly not using/needing and then give it to your mother to use at her daycare? Your mother is essentially making a profit off of government assistance by using that food for people who pay her to feed their kids.
If you don't need the food, you should be donating it to a shelter.

Why are you getting the food if you aren't planning on using it? If you can find a use for it, good. If not, stop getting it and donate what you have to a women's shelter (or something similar).
Please stop abusing the system.
Mmmm...cake!
We've given frozen cubes of applesauce in a mesh feeder. He loves it.
You could also spread purees on mum mums or toast. Offer a bit on the tray directly and let him play with it / eat it off his hands.

Since you don't need the WIC items, just don't purchase them. Problem solved.

Me too.
Here's a thought...
Don't get what you don't need.
The only thing you are taking advantage of is the system and considering you're in CA - it's at the expense of others.
If you don't need it leave it at the grocery store. I am all for public assistance, but don't be wasteful. It was free to you because everyone else chipped in to pay for it. If you'll use the fruits, great, if you won't use veggies and meat then don't use the coupons. Supplying your moms daycare- I think it's fine for the stuff you already have that you are realizing you won't use so long as maybe she's using it as back up if someone's mom forgets to send some one day or something? But if the cost of baby food is included in her price and she's gotten it from you for free... not cool. And I definitely would not continue to pick up food and give it to the daycare. Not appropriate use of public funding.
I am sorry but I WHOLE HEARTIDLY AGREE with this. Either feed your LO the food or donate it. If neither of those options work, don't get it. You should be reported. It is because of people who abuse the system that people who truly need help get a bad rap.
Yep, all this. I think it's terrible that people who don't need/use the food from any kind of government assistance (WIC, welfare, whatever) abuse the system by taking it anyway. The money my husband works hard to earn for our family is wasted on taxes for people who are taking hand-over-fist for no reason.
ETA: What you have that you won't use for your baby (not your own random uses) should be donated to a shelter or pregnancy center. While you could use it recipes, why deprive those who obviously need it more than you?
