I have the meeting with the preK program leader on Friday. We'll see what happens. For now, there is MAJOR overcompensating going on and DS is already getting better about going. He still says he doesn't want to go etc. but at least he's not crying about it and crying while he's there. If it takes me putting up a stink for him to get the treatment/care he (and every kid in the class) deserves, then so be it. So for now things are good and I think they will remain that way.
I'm still keeping the meeting in case this is just a lull and DS starts complaining again, I think there needs to be a plan in place if the bullying starts up agin. And honestly IMO the teacher should have been doing what she just started doing NOW, a long time ago. There should be encouragement for ALL the kids to play together, there should be a nice greeting at the beginning of the day etc. NOT just because I complained...and I think everyone should be treated this way, not looking for special treatment for DS at all.
I am glad that I kept DS there (even if it was somewhat forced due to finances), and that FINALLY the teacher made a change, it's obvious it's working!
Re: Update w/draw from preschool post
ITA with you. What they're doing now should have been happening from the start. I pulled DD out of a school last year for similar reasons. She wasn't being bullied, but it was the good ol' 2 girls against 1 and their answer was always the same ... we told her to go play with someone else. Well, that's all fine and good, but you're doing the other kids a disservice by not teaching them appropriate behavior too. They need to know that sometimes it's ok to tell another child they want to play with someone else and sometimes they need to include her. They just couldn't grasp the concept that all kids need guidance in these areas in preschool and my otherwise happy and well adjusted child cried about going to school every day.
She's in a PreK program through our school district now and doing much better since there is more focus on social development there. I hope your program continues to improve, keep their feet to the fire!
This, please keep a very close eye on this!!!!! Especially next semester when things move forward and perhaps lessons are forgotten.
