Mirena ?

I have had the Mirena for a little over a year. I talked my SIL into getting one bc I swore by it. She ended up getting it removed because it made her so tired, gave her headaches (to the point she got an MRI), low sex drive, even numbness in her toes and fingers at times.

I'm always tired and have low drive, but I thought it was me...anyone else have symptoms with this that you've noticed??

And what are your AFs like? I haven't had one in I don't know how long. Hopefully that doesn't sound bad, I just got wrapped up in life and I've forgotten about them and now that I think about it, I can't tell you the last time I've spotted or anything.

 Give me your thoughts, TIA!!!!

Re: Mirena ?

  • I haven't noticed anything myself. I've yet to have a period with the Mirena in. I went threw the normal bleeding and spotting after placement (Jan '11) and then nothing ever again. Technically speaking, I haven't had a period since Feb. '10. hehe.

  • I have the exact same symptoms.  I also no longer get AF, probably haven't in about six months.  I got the Mirena about a year ago.  However, I take a pregnancy test every month just in case.  I am going to talk to my doctor about it but we were thinking about getting it out in February anyway.

Me too!  I actually like that part lol!

  • My biggest complaints is the PMS around the time of my period.  I don't actually get a period, but I get all the symptoms (if that makes since).  Otherwise, I love the Mirena.  I don't get headaches, the melasma on my face is better, I don't have to worry about taking the pill, etc.  However, after we have our next child my husband will get a vasectomy because I am sick of the hormones and the bc side effects.  I also notice that I am always tired, but I also have an extremely busy 17 month old, so I'm not sure how much I can blame the exhaustion on the Mirena.  As far as the sex drive...I think the low drive comes from the exhaustion.

  • I had it in for a year and recently had it removed because of how much I hated it. I had three periods during the beginning that were horrible then no periods at all. I was nasty, moody and had no sex drive. I was constantly tired and got aggravated quickly. I was NOT  like this pre-Mirena. I got it out about 5 weeks ago and after my cycle regulated I was normal again! NEVER, EVER will I get Mirena again.

  • I figured the tiredness came from having a baby, now toddler, and the low sex drive came from the tiredness. It probably is because of the child factor and not the Mirena because H is just as tired and uninterested in sex as I am. My periods are regular, but very short and light and I'll gladly take tiredness, low sex drive, and barely-there periods over the monster periods I had pre-baby.
