NBR: Rec. your steam mop!

In browsing Amazon, I think I might ask for one of these as a gift. We have all laminate and tile flooring and I hate hate hate hate mopping. I use the swiffer wet and wet jet a lot, but don't feel like they really, truly clean. I've wanted one of these for a while, so might as well have my mom get it for me. Super glamorous gift, I know.

So... Which do you love and which should I avoid?

  • I use to have a shark and I hated it. It just used a lot of water and the pads just got soaked really quickly. I now have a HAAN and I love it! I don't use it everytime I do the floors because it is time consuming. When you steam, you have to move a lot slower then standard mopping. But, I try to use it at least every other week. You are also going to want to get extra pads especially if you are doing large areas.

And, after you steam, your house smells so clean!

  • I have a shark and I am not really that impressed. It does not create a ton of steam and it is really hard to get gunk off the floor especially in the kitchen. I do like the way the house smells after I do it though and I like not having to use chemicals.
  • I have the Eureka Enviro Steamer and I love it. Easy to use and not too expensive. If you don't have amazon prime for free shipping it's the same price on WalMart's website and .97 shipping.

  • I have a shark vac and steam and I don't seem to have an issue with it.  If I have a stubborn spot I just leave the mop on that spot for about 30 seconds so the steam can loosen the gunk off the floor and then I keep on mopping.  My only complain about it is that it the steam action stops say if you have to get in between the toilet and the tub because it's such a small space that you have to put the handle upright.

THis. I love mine. I read this massive review on Amazon and it sealed the deal for me. https://www.amazon.com/Eureka-Enviro-Hard-Surface-Steamer-313A/dp/B001LYFBHG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323210031&sr=8-1

  • We have a Shark pocket mop and we use it every night. It's great! We move pretty darn quickly with it..actually the more quickly you move, the more steam it produces.

If we have a big mess or stubborn spot, we wipe it up with our hands first. The one we got came with I think 3 different head sizes/shapes and 3-4 different covers and you can just pop them in the washing machine. We use it on laminate and tile.

Ditto.  I've got the same one, too, and I really like it.  I still use the Swiffer 90% of the time because it is quick/easy but I'm much more likely to really "mop" the floors now that I've got the steam mop.  It goes pretty quickly and I'm able to get my entire kitchen/dining area on a single tank.
