December 2011 Moms

Do your appointments run on time?

Today we have the 38 week appointment. The appointment is scheduled for 1530 but I will phone in at 1445 and get a more accurate time/estimate. The new time will likely be for 1730 or so. Based on the past 8 months we won't actually see the dr. until 1900/1930. Cannot wait to be done with this part of the deal.

  • Mine are only on time if I have the first one of the morning. Otherwise, they're late. But only an hour or so - your OB wait times sound ridiculous!

  • wow that is crazy-hours behind???

My OB office has been really great with this, usually I am taken back by the nurse within 10-15 minutes and then seen by the Dr. 10-15 minutes after that.

Today I had to wait about 30 minutes and that was the longest.  I definitely would be ticked off if I had to wait hours and block off an entire half day just for a routine visit.

  • always 15 to 20 min late

  • Mine are generally pretty good. I usually get in a room within 15 mins and then the doctor will be there within another 5 or so. Sometimes it's terrible but not too bad on most days. If he's just come back after a long weekend or holidays I find it much worse.

  • With my pregnancy doctors the longest I've ever had to wait is 10 minutes extra, I don't know if that's the way their office runs or if it's because we live in a smaller town now. When I lived near Vancouver even with an appointment they were always running at least an hour to two hours behind. I hated sitting there, especially when I went in for a sprained back and it was painful to wait.

  • My scheduled appointments are great. For instance, I drove to my appointment, waited maybe 5 mins to be called by the nurse, then waited maybe 2 mins in the room for the Dr. I was able to make it back to work within the hour. Now, if I am squeezed in for some sort of urgent situation, it usually takes much longer and I can exspect to be out of work for 2 hours or more.

  • Just called and it was worse and better than I expected

The worse: The receptionist said, "did I already talk to you about changing your appointment"

The better: "Can you come in on Friday at 1pm. It won't be your dr but it will be one who runs on time"

So this week's visit will be at 38wks 3 days. I am ok with that as I've had no issues. I would be even happier if things started happening on Thursday!

  • When I was still working I would always try to get an early morning ppointment, so I could just go there from home and then into work. That was easy when I was booking them at least 2 weeks in advance, and then I would be no more than 5 minutes wait and often less (they were waiting for me when I came back from peeing in the cup).

Last week my appointment was for 2:45 and I waited for over an hour. I think this is pretty typical for them though, so I will try to get mornings for the rest of them, but know that they book up fast, so there usually aren't spots a week in advance...

  • Wow, your OB sounds ridiculous! I would have some serious words to say if I EVER had to wait that long for any appointment. My midwife is always on time, I've never had to wait. In fact, sometimes I've turned up 5 minutes early and she's seen me straight away.

  • Wow...I can't believe what some of you ladies go through.  I'm usually in and out within 20 min of my scheduled time.  At my last appt, my OB was running about 10-15 min behind (that's definitely not normal), but the nurse knew he was running behind and told me not to bother undressing right away and she'd tap on the door 3-4 min before he'd be in.  I thought that was pretty considerate of her.  :)

  • Waiting that long would be a deal breaker for me. Usually I have early morning appointments and I am taken back within 5 minutes of arriving. However, when I go later in the day, I've had to wait. Even then it's usually about 15 minutes. When I went for my anatomy scan the doctor was running really late and I was seen maybe 1.5 hours after my scheduled appointment. But, that was the only time that has ever happened and turns out that she had had an emergency pop up earlier in the day and had been behind ever since.

  • I usually see the dr within 15min of my appt time. There was one time I did have to wait and ended up seeing a nurse instead, apparently the dr was called to the hospital for an "emergency procedure". I understood, as I would expect her to do the same if I needed it myself. However I would not go to a dr that ran consistently late, it would drive me crazy! My time is just as important as theirs....
