2nd Trimester

Brazilian waxing while pregnant?

I've been religiously doing this every 4 weeks for years before I got pregnant.  Last time I had it done was around 6 weeks and it hurt like hell; then I got put on bedrest at 11 weeks and I basically gave up.  Until this week when I happened to look in the mirror which I try not to do these days, and got seriously grossed out.  I know some people don't mind / don't care about body hair but I am not one of them.

So long story short, I've got an appointment to get de-fuzzed tomorrow.  Those of you who keep up with it while pg, what should I expect in terms of pain?  I plan to take tylenol before I go.  Any other tips?  I've never had issues with this but now for some reason I am scared.

  • I just shave.  I tried to wax before and it hurt to bad to finish.  I'm going to continue shaving until it just becomes too much of a chore to do.

  • I go every 4 weeks and have gone 3 times since finding I was pregnant. It hurts more but my lady is fast and the pain never lingers.  I never take Tylenol before I just deal with it. I know it's not much help but I think the pain subsides after each subsequent visit.

  • I tried shaving, years ago and fairly recently... other than cutting myself and causing a ton of itchy ingrowns, it didn't accomplish anything.  In my next life, I am coming back free of any body hair, LOL.

  • Ugh, I'm with you I HATE body hair (on me, on my DH it doesn't bother me for some reason). My skin just is so sensitive right now. I get my lip and eyebrows waxed every 4 weeks and that hurts like hell right now when it usually doesn't bother me so I cannot even fathom waxing the bikini area right now. I just shave for the moment. Lots of men's shaving cream and cheap 2 blade razors are my secret. They work better than the ones with 5 blades because the hair doesn't get stuck in them. Plus, I toss it right after so no dull blades ever.

  • I thought that it hurt more during first tri then it did in second or third. I don't know if it was because I was expecting it to hurt a lot more or not.

  • I am going to brave it tomorrow and will report how it went.  Hopefully I'll be back with my vag still intact, hehe.

  • I went recently and it REALLY hurt a lot more than pre-pregnancy. I forgot to take the tylenol though. While it was happening I was wondering why I put myself through such pain! I think I might switch to whatever is the step down from a brazillian, haha.

  • I went for my regular appt during first tri and was scared of the pain, but was pleasantly surprised when it actually hurt LESS than usual! Thanks for the reminder, because I've been meaning to schedule another visit (just been too nauseous to do so until the past few days). Good luck!

This. My most recent visit was Friday and it hurt so much less than the two times before it.

You must have a steal vagina...I tried to wax once...I hit the floor before I got the whole piece of tape off.

  • ATeal you are freekin' hysterical...stop it makes me tinkle in my knickers...

I've Brazilian waxed myself since forever . I had a Brazilian once at a salon and it was sopuch a horrifying experience ( assume the frog position whaaaaat?!?!) I taught myself with GIGi Sugar Bear wax...love it.  I've noticed that it hurts less now too and my hair is actually finer so it doesn't seem to hurt as bad. And my leg hair has completely stopped growing?!?!

  • I can't even see my cochie anymore. I am on bedrest and pelvic rest so my husband wont see it either. I just trim it up now. Thats really my last worry right now.
  • I've done it while pregnant and it didn't really hurt more than usual.

    Good luck!

  • had mine done last week. it was a bit more pinchy than usual. my lady used filipil?? it has a cool sensation and makes all feel better.... ask about it. you should be fine.
  • I usually do a "full bikini" and I stopped once I got pregnant. My eyebrows, etc are already super sensitive to the waxing now so I don't want to torture myself even further. I started shaving again and just trimming up now and again. Not my first choice but I don't want to endure the pain right now. I'll get back to my routine after pregnancy.
  • I just regular wax but it feels the same. I wouldn't stress out.

  • It does seem to hurt a bit more now but I don't take anything prior.  The place I go to is fast and they use the taffy like wax.  Which to me is better than the traditional wax (that is used for eyebrows).  I'm sure you will be just fine!

I'm so sorry you hurt, but at the same time I have to admit I just laughed my butt off at this!! I'm debating on getting mine done for the first time ever, and am wondering about the pain. I may end up on the floor with you!

  • When I had it done while pg with DD2 not only was it incredibly painful, but it also made me bleed.  The tech kept having to stop the process to blot parts that were bleeding.  I'd rather just have someone trim it than wax.  less pain.

  • I continue to get aBrazilian while pregnant. The last time I did it was more painful (didn't take any pain meds. Next time will take tylenol). It was also more awkward. Now that I'm showing, positioning was very different. Rather than finishing up on my belly, she had me lay on each side. NO ONE has ever seen me in these unique positions before. hehe I'm so grateful I have known her for years and she is so excited that I'm finally pregnant.  p.s. The one thing I now love is that I no longer have to schedule it in relation to when I have my period. Any day is a good day. :)

  • I am with you, there's just something like being silky smooth that just makes you feel like yourself! Before pregnancy, I used to do it myself (which hurt a little more because I was inflicting pain on myself -rather than having someone else do it- but was way cheaper). I found someone I really like in my area who only charges $50, which is SUPER cheap considering it's $75 or more at most other salons. Anyway, so I went originally in my first trimester at about 12 weeks because at that point I was desparate and I felt it was safer to have someone else do it who had a better view and angle on things. It didn't hurt THAT much more than usual that time, though I think my skin bled a little more than usual.

The SECOND time I went, was the doozy however. I went again at about 26 weeks  (I was too poor to go in between at that time) and it seriously made me feel physically ill. I had to ask her to stop for a few minutes half way through because I felt really dizzy (even laying down) and hot all over with kind of a cold sweat and was afraid I was going to lose consciousness or throw up. I sat up and drank some water and after a few minutes I was fine to continue and got all the way through it.

I'm now 32 weeks (moving into 33) and I plan to go again either tomorrow or during the week depending on when they can schedule me. I know last time was a bad experience, but I don't have the regrowth now that I had at that session, so I'm hoping it will be less physically daunting. I am a little worried though because my belly is HUGE, but I feel like it's really important that I get it done now more than ever because the last thing I wanna do is face the post-partum period and all the grossness associated with that with a lot of hair (which will make me feel more gross). I may try for one more time after this time before baby comes, but that would take me pretty close to his due date, so we'll see.
