So a coworker let me borrow a few of her CD's to see what I though before I went and bought my own diapers. So I showed my MIL and she said "I think I have a pattern". She had kids like 30 years ago!
She is already making me some maternity shirts, which I am greatful for, but I would rather stick to premade cloth diapers. She thinks the CD's are too expensive, but I know they are cheaper in the long run than disposables. I just wouldn't trust diapers that she could make from a pattern. Maybe I am being stupid... I don't want to hurt her feelings.Do I sound like a total jerk?
What is your opinion?
Re: MIL wants to make my diapers?!
Let her make you some diapers. Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised. Maybe they'll be awful. In the meantime you can stock up on other brands you'd like to try.
Search around for a few patterns (very baby, for example) and see if she would be able to make those. Then you have a more up to date pattern, but she can still "make" them. I probably wouldn't have her make a whole stash until you know if you like them, though.
I would take advantage of it! Maybe suggest she makes some wool covers for you. Those can get pricey if you buy them all ready made. And you can save money if you make them out of old sweaters.
I agree with pp, check out a more updated pattern.
"Premade" diapers are often made by moms in their sewing room. Let your MIL make you a few diapers. Heck, even find some updated patterns for her.
How experienced of a seamstress is she? If she's past beginner- take her up on it! I make diapers, it's not that hard and (IMO, lol) they work great.
Ditto what others have said about finding a "modern" pattern for her- I like the Nykibaby pattern. You can help her pick out fabric so you know she's actually using PUL, etc, instead of some "make a diaper from a shower curtain" technique.
You could also just make it sound like you're on the fence about CDs vs disposables so she doesn't make a ton in case they don't work. Kinda sneaky, but you can always "rave" about them later if she wants to make more!
Thanks for the replies. I feel better about it now. I think I will let her try it.:)

Take a look at the suggestions I think you might be pleasantly surprised at the quality of cloth diaper's and materials used to make them.
She can definitely do soakers without a serger, but from experience, it is a pain in the a$$. I got a $200 Brother serger from Amazon and it was worth *every penny* not to have to T&T the soakers. Plus, serged diapers are also nice and stretchy and quick to make!
You *can* but they look like crap.
