I will have to have a planned c section because of a pre-existing medical condition. I have a bunch of questions- would appreciate any input!
1. When will they tell me my date? I know I still have a WHILE but it would be nice to just have it in mind
2. With planned C's, do they normally let you go to 40 weeks?
3. My in laws who live halfway across the country are insisting that they are here when the baby is born and my DH wants them to be here also. I'm not too worried about them being at the hospital because I can get the nurses to kick them out when I want privacy. I am, however, very worried about them being here when I get home. They are good people but not good with boundary issues and are very smothering. How long do you think is reasonable to expect them to stay? This is their first grandchild. Also, they would not actually be staying at our home, but I still think this could get bad.
4. Were you allowed to wear makeup during surgery?
5. I am scared SILLY of the spinal. I'm not so worried about surgery in general, but the thought of the spinal itself, and also of being awake during surgery, literally petrifies me beyond belief. Do they ever let you opt for general?
Thank you
Re: Planned C section questions
2. With planned C's, do they normally let you go to 40 weeks-I can't medically. I have to be delivered at 38w

Also, they would not actually be staying at our home, but I still think this could get bad.-my mom stayed with us for a few days. We were going kinda stir crazy as my house isn't really set up for having visitors.
4. Were you allowed to wear makeup during surgery?-I think I could have, but didn't.

Do they ever let you opt for general?-I wouldn't opt for the general. MH and the drug dr (I don't know how to spell it) talked to me the whole time up until they were about to come out. I was more nervous the 2nd time with the spinal for fear that it wasn't going to work. The first time I was in shock and it went in smoothly.

I will schedule my date at 32 weeks.
2. With planned C's, do they normally let you go to 40 weeks? I will probably be delivering between 38-39 weeks depending on if my issues keep up. I believe they like to schedule most women within their 39th week.

This is my second child, first c section, and I am having people come help me the first week with my daughter and niece.
4. Were you allowed to wear makeup during surgery? That would depend solely on the hospital you deliver at and their pre op instructions.
5. I am scared SILLY of the spinal. I'm not so worried about surgery in general, but the thought of the spinal itself, and also of being awake during surgery, literally petrifies me beyond belief. Do they ever let you opt for general? Normally, no. General anesthesia causes more risks associated to both mother and baby. Plus you are in recovery longer and it takes longer to get moving, etc. Unless it's an emergency and you NEED to be knocked out completely, they give a spinal or epidural.
I am having a c-section at 39 weeks (had a c-section with my first). I chose my date at my 16 week check-up.
I enjoyed having help at home. It was nice for my mom to be there and help out.
The spinal is not bad. For me, having to have them re-do the IV was the worst part.
This was me. I was terrified of the spinal and not at all worried about anything else to do with the surgery. The spinal was pretty much my reason for fighting hard against a c-section, despite an actual recommendation from two doctors to do it. Let me tell you, it ended up being no big deal at all. Seriously. The nurses were great at calming me down, and the anesthesiologist was so friendly and fast I barely felt anything. You'll get a numbing shot of novicaine before the spinal catheter is put in, and that helps so much. I would say it was pretty much painless. A little bit of pressure and then all of a sudden you don't feel your legs. During the surgery they put a drape up so you can't actually see the surgery, and my husband and the anesthesiologist talked to me through the whole thing. It was all so much better than I expected.
