I'm looking for Christmas ideas for the grandparents--I thought maybe some type of educational or memory games for my 2 yr old. We have a few wooden peg puzzles, but DD seems bored with them.
At 2 our DD enjoyed her blocks, we made games from them practicing letters numbers and colors. We bought some fun flash cards that teach counting and alphabet as well, with big colorful pictures. She also got interested in the learn and grow Sesame street computer games. I had to move the mouse for her, but she loved it. still does.
Mega blocks or lego duplo. Lets your toddler get creative, incourages self play, imagination, mind stimulation, and hand eye co-ordination/dexterity.
DD got Candyland for her 2nd bday and LOVES it..she cheats too ! lol ! but the game moves fast so it can hold her attention for the 5 minutes that it lasts.
We got her Memory, Chutes & Ladders & Mr Bucket for Xmas so we'll see how she does with those..I definetly think Candyland is a great starter game for them.
DS likes Connect 4 (not necessarily playing the game, but he will sit there putting in the coins in different patterns and loves when they dump out the bottom). Memory is good too. We are giving him Candyland for Christmas. Maybe get her some 4/9/12/24 piece puzzles if the peg ones are too easy now.
We got DS a memory game and Bop a Mole. We also got Chutes and Ladders, more because it was a great price than we think he's really ready for it. We also got his a travel "fishing" game that you use your pole to "catch" the fish. We were also looking at Hungry Hungry Hippo. I still have all the board games from when i was little that DS will get as well such as Candy Land, Uncle Wiggly and a few others.

Candyland is huge!!! DS does not really full grasp what is required of him in the game so far, but he LOVES to play it! Memory is also a great one for 2 year old.
Right now, she just plays puzzles and a matching type game. But we got her candyland for christmas and we may give chutes and ladders a try too - my parents still have my old one at their house.
We're playing Snakes and Ladders with DS (guess it's "chutes and ladders now"). It says its for ages 3 and up but he seems to love it. Of course he doesn't "follow the rules" but he loves rolling the dice and moving his "person" around the board. We tend to let him move his guy wherever he feels like...so he'll count the right # that is on the dice when he rolls it but might go say...diagonally.. or touch on random squares all around the board.. it's cute and funny. He has always REALLY loved numbers though since he could count so this is probably why he likes that kind of game.
Re: Does your 2 yr old play games?
We are just now getting into the board games, but that's mainly because they're both just now able to focus and sit down long enough to play one.
Maybe try getting some more difficult puzzles if she's bored with the peg ones?
