When do you think an infant is no longer considered a "newborn"?

I use the term alot and was just curious...1 month?  2 months?  Random wondering I had... ; )

  • I think they are considered "newborns" until 3 months.

  • I know they are considered "neonates" until 1 month. Perhaps that's the same thing.

  • A newborn is 28 days or younger.

  • Medically, I believe it's 3 months. That is the guideline all of the pediatricians my girls have seen have used when discussing things like fevers, medications, etc.

  • I don't know the medical definition (although I had heard it was 1 month and younger) but I'll stop calling DD a newborn when she stops tucking her knees when I pick her up. It'll be the last obvious trait that she was in my belly, and I'll be so sad when it happens!
  • I would think until they reach the end of the "fourth trimester" at 3 months

  • I was wondering this same thing when I pulled into the expectant mom/newborn mom parking at buy buy baby today. I decided that 8 weeks was still close enough.
