Tot Clock vs other similar items

Anyone recommend one over the other? DS has recently started to barge into our room anywhere from 5:45 - 6:15 using every excuse in the book... thirsty, hungry, have to go to the bathroom, etc. They might be true, but I think he just wants to play.  He's not getting enough sleep at night (he doesn't usually fall asleep until 8:30 or 9 regardless of what time he is put to bed). 

I've done some research and narrowed it down to these 3 (unless anyone has other suggestions to add!)

    We LOVE our Tot Clock.
    Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.

    We have a $15 light timer from Home Depot and use it with his regular lamp.

    we do too but DD at age 3 knows that she is not supposed to get up until the clock is yellow, yet still does it

    I really like the 5 color one.  Right now we use it for Maggie as a go to sleep clock.  She is allowed to read books or some other quiet activity in her room until 8:30 at which point she must go to sleep (or she would stay up all night).  I only have a stop light clock so I have to set it red when she can play and tell her that green means go to sleep - not the best set up IMO.  I like the option of more colors and using it as you want, you might not always need it for wake ups only.

    I bit the bullet and dropped $59 on the Tot Clock. Totally worth it if he stays quietly in his room until at least 6:45 :)

    We have the Goodnite Lite and it works well for DS1. He likes the moon/sun feature--that it is a moon sometimes and then the sun sometimes.  I also think it's less confusing/more clear than some other toddler clocks.  Just my 2 cents.
