Re: anyone use sittercity ?

  • I think sittercity is much more preferable than craigslist.

I am not a parent yet (gr.  Stick out tongue), so I haven't yet had to endure the stress of choosing a mother's helper or babysitter.  However, several years ago I did FIND a babysitting job through sittercity.  I had a good experience with it and actually the mom of the kids I babysat for helped me get a job and after some position changes for both of us she's now my boss.  Zip it!  Crazy world!

You'll get a good idea of what someone is like between an interview and checking their references.  And, you'll especially get a feel for who they are if some of the care you're looking for is when you or your wife are home.

I also babysat in college for some families that I connected with through a babysitting board relating to the school.  If you have any colleges near you you could ask around either with a career development office or with someone who works in a early childhood education/human development type program.

  • Yes.  I used Sittercity and had really great luck.  I got about 12 responses to my ad and ended up brining two girls in for interviews.  Both have sat for DD and one stayed at our house when we were out of town for two weeks.  I bought just a one month membership and made sure I got contact info for all the girls before the month ran out.

  • I would try Sittercity or Care.com (similar site) before you try Craigslist.  They are safer.

I have never used Sittercity myself, but have used Care.com and have had a really good experience.  I know that they give promotion codes for a discount on the Facebook page and through Twitter so if you are looking to save some money you should start there.  Care.com's FB page always has comments and I see their employees answering questions or concerns if you have any burning questions you need answered. My advice is to look at the babysitters on both sites and then join the site you think has potential sitters/ mother's helpers for your family.  I included the page below for Henderson.  But that's where I would start.  Good Luck!

  • we used sittercity and got two great folks from there. We also asked other moms for recommendations of sitters, since sometimes their sitters might be looking for more work.

    Good luck!

  • We have twins and have used sittercity, and found a great babysitter! I def suggest trying it out.  I also paid for one month, and then got the info and let it run out.

Good luck!  Having twins def warrants needing a break! Ours are 6 months old next week!
