How was your weekend?

Re: How was your weekend?

  • I had a nice weekend.  I cannot remember Friday night...  nope, nothing.  Saturday my mom came over and helped me buy and put holiday decorations.  Sunday I cleaned out our office and visited with my niece/SIL/bro.  It went by too fast!

  • Nice weekend. On Friday we ordered pizza and I cleaned up the house quickly before our friend arrived in the late evening. We sat up talking until way too late.

Saturday morning Jen slept in and Erin and I got up at the crack of dawn and drove to the harbor for our 5K. There were a bunch of problems and to make a long story short, we ended up standing around in 35 degree weather for over two hours before the race started. But the hot chocolate and fondue afterward was yummy. We took a nap when we got home (since we'd only gotten about four hours of sleep) and then went out for burgers before settling on the couch for movies.

Erin left pretty early on Sunday. Our Christmas tree was delivered at 9:30, and then we went to see The Muppets and run some errands. We watched my favorite Christmas movie (Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas) and decorated the tree when we got home, and I made chili for supper.

  • Good morning!  This weekend was way too fast.

Saturday - went to a lovely brunch at miss Norika33's house.  Took LO home to nap while I cleaned.  And I can't really remember anything after that.

Sunday - I attended a babyshower while DW and DD hung out.  Then we all met up to pick out a Christmas tree.  A few quick errands after that and then home for our nighttime routine.

I needed more time to just hang out with my child.  I missed her this weekend.

  • Leap - I had friends who ran that race and said the logistics were a nightmare.

L was off writing this weekend...again. One more weekend and then she is home for 3 weekends in a row!!

Friday night was low key at home. Kids started to watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

Saturday morning Carter woke everyone up at 5:35am. I could have killed him. The kids finished watching the movie and then we went to swimming lessons. We ran a few errands and I had them down for a nap by 1pm. Go me. We headed to a holiday party hosted by our clinic medical director. The kids had a great time playing with the other kids and I had a good time hanging out with co-workers. We were among the last to leave so the kids got to bed late.

Sunday morning they were up at 5:55am. What the...??? I addressed Christmas cards while the kids played. We met L for lunch and took a walk (it was so nice out!!) Took the kids to Target (madhouse) and to get Gray new sneakers (scored a deal at SR for $19.99!!!) The kids were exhausted and wound up and I was exhausted and grumpy. Bad combo. I had the kids fed and in my bed watching a movie by 5:30. Carter was asleep by 6:30 and Gray was out by 6:45. Niiiiice. I spent the evening online, doing laundry, and for some reason staying awake to watch The Next Iron Chef even though I was so tired.

And thanks to falling asleep so early last night, the kids were up at 5:30am this morning. Sigh. I need a weekend to recover from my weekend.

  • another way too fast weekend.

Saturday was a roller coaster. Sprout was off the wall with horrid behavior, but we had a playdate with some friends we haven't seen in a bit which was nice and the girls did great. After rest we went to our town's tree lighting.  They decorated the fire trucks, we saw santa, did a carol sing, ect.  It was really nice until the end when Sprout lost it and the walk home and subsequent bed time was awful.

Sunday was much better.  In the morning DW took the girls to a playdate.  Sprout stayed home thanks to his behavior saturday.  I was able to cook/clean in peace. Then we switched children and DW took Sprout to a train museum (his behavior was much improved) while I stayed home iwth the girls.  They both slept so I had more time to cook and clean and listen to Christmas music. It was lovely. In the evening my parents and brother came over for a Thanksgiving revisit and the kids loved the visit.

  • Friday - acupuncture, assisting at the breastfeeding support group, client meeting, errands (including buying some more new clothes, driving across the city and a drug screening for my internship) then I worked overnight

Saturday - slept for a bit then worked in the afternoon for four hours. Then a holiday party for my local professional organizations. Afterward I picked C up and we went out to a club night that our friends DJ/produce/DJ. She does photography and I hungout and danced with friends (completely sober, so funny).

Sunday - Day 90 (last day) of my juice feast! In the morning I went on an LC home visit for a 5 day old in the morning, followed by sitting on a panel at a training, then errands with C for our upcoming trip to Whistler: new snowboarding pants, jacket, goggles and facemask for C; new swimsuit, gloves wool thermals and hoodies for me. The swimsuit may seem odd, but I may go to the Scandinavian spa and/or pool and my suit from earlier this year doesn't fit any more. Worked overnight.

  • A good weekend here... my best friend didn't come over, but she's coming next weekend instead. I did get to see my cousins though. They came down to our place on Saturday, and some of my local cousins came by too. It was really nice to see everyone, and the phone call asking if they could come to our place instead of us traveling up to meet them at either my Gram's or my parents was a kick in the butt to get some cleaning done that I'd been slacking about.  Stick out tongue

Sunday we put up the Christmas decorations. We did it mostly while Gwen napped, so seeing her face when she came downstairs was awesome. After that we headed over to Trav's Grandfather's to say Hi, and while there Gwen peed on the potty for the first time! Indifferent  She's been showing some interest, but we'd only sat her on the potty probably twice before. She must have seem my comment last week about not wanting to potty train and like the determined girl she is, set out to make me eat my words!! LOL.

I ordered a toilet seat for her and a few pairs of trainer pants (though we won't need those quite yet).  ::gulp::  I'm a little scared... how do I even start this?

I keep meaning to ask... how has the adjustment been going with having DW back? Is DD used to having her back? Are you used to having her back? And how is DW doing with being back in the states?

  • Yeah, the race was pretty bad. The organizers sent a long apology email yesterday, which was appreciated. I'd give them a second chance, but not in the winter :-D I probably burned more calories shivering before the race than running it. Wasn't the worst I've seen though - during my first half-marathon the race permit got pulled halfway through, so there was not even a finish line. Just a guy standing there pointing to where the finish line would be if they'd been allowed to keep it there.

dont be scared! as someone who is "in the trenches" - i've gotta say, its not nearly as big of a deal as I thought it was.  Sure, there are accidents, but its no biggie!

I started with letting her go diaper free (bare-bummed or in undies) when we were home.  Then one day (last sunday) it just "clicked" and she used the toilet 6 times in one morning.  Once we got daycare on board, we just went for it and she hasn't been in a diaper since!

  • Saturday we hosted a Queer Baby Brunch for some moms and moms-to-be, including Two and G! My house was full with babies and toddlers, a 3mo old fell asleep on me, and I loved every minute.

One of the moms couldnt make it because she was up all night throwing up. She's pregnant with twins, and we found out yesterday morning that she had a seizure Sunday morning, and an emergency c-section and had the boys at 25weeks. Now, we aren't great friends- she's good friends with a friend of mine, but I can't stop thinking about her and those babies. I dont want to be weird and hover, but I also want to help. I'm going to sign up for the home food delivery rotation that someone is organizing. I also asked my mom to knit two prayer shawls- she knit a tiny one for my little E when she had her procedure at 8w old and it was the cutest thing ever. I'm not religious but every bit helps.

Other ideas from preemie moms or what you've appreciated folks doing for you even if you don't know them that well?

Sunday - I attended a babyshower while DW and DD hung out.

I keep meaning to ask... how has the adjustment been going with having DW back? Overall, pretty good.

Is DD used to having her back?omg - DD loves DW! DW gets the biggest smiles and the deepest laughs from LO.  When I get LO from the crib in the morning the first thing she wants to do is search for DW. It's awesome :-)

Are you used to having her back?Yes and no.  My adjustment has actually been much more difficult than I expected.  We're talking a lot thought and things are coming together.

And how is DW doing with being back in the states? They say PTSD usually kicks in 60-90 days after a return. In fact she has a mandatory mental health check at around 90 days.  While I think she'll be just fine in regards to PTSD she does view the world much differently and while she has changed people/home hasn't.  She's only been back at her regular job a week and already hates it again.  But it's only a job and only a job that she has to keep until the PhD is officially done and we can seriously look at moving.  On a brighter note she loves having beer and good food again! ;-)

    And thanks for asking!

How do things work at RB's daycare?  DD has been using the potty at school every other day or so.  During their routine diaper change times they ask DD if she needs to use the potty.  If she says 'yes' they will put her on it.  And like I said she has a success a few times a week.  They will also put her on the potty if she says potty or grabs her diaper.

Daycare is open to doing whatever I think is best.  But since I'm not doing hardcore training at home (she runs around in training pants and has free access to the potties) I'm not wedded to any one thing.

As far as i'm aware, they dont have any specific program (or at least they arent using one w/ RB since we arent).  They have a toddler bathroom in the classroom that the kids have open access to.  they were doing the same kind of thing that you describe since she moved into the classroom (she wore a diaper, but at each change they would ask if she wanted to use the potty and sometimes she did).  When we told them that she had gone a bunch of times in one morning, they were excited and said thats the sign that she's ready for full training.  So we went with their suggestion and stopped putting her in diapers.  So now at school she just goes potty whenever she has to.  if its been more than 45-60 minutes, they give a reminder, but they are big on self-led potty-ing from the beginning.  And sometimes they give her a mini marshmallow for reinforecement ;)

  • Friday night I was leaving work late and ran into a good work friend so we had an unplanned happy hour! It was good to see her and catch up and have a beer!

Saturday I took my car to the shop for an oil change and a non-urgent recall issue. The whole appt. was supposed to take 1.5 hours. Almost 3 hours later...sigh. Then I ran some errands. Home to hang my outdoor lights. Then a bit of cleaning and laundry and a late dinner with a mommy friend.

Sunday E's dad and I took her to brunch and then to see the nutcracker ballet. I think she really enjoyed it, there were some moments I'd say she was very entranced by it all.Smile It was sort of an all day affair though, so after they dropped me at home I had time for a bit of grocery shopping and cooking and it was time to call it a night. I need another day in my weekend.

  • Our weekend went by super fast too. We spent most of it decorating the house for the holidays and preparing for DS's birthday party next weekend. His official bday is this Wednesday. Crazy! How has a year gone by already?!?!

  • The weekend... Do I remember the weekend?

Friday was the two-year anniversary of my best friend's suicide. Since 2009, I've been finding it hard to gear up for Christmas. I'm just not in a festive mood.

On Saturday we went to coffee at our church to meet the new pastor, who's starting this month. He seems really nice, but we'll miss our interim pastor a lot. She married us, baptized J, and is generally pretty darn awesome. After lunch, we ran some errands (getting documents notarized for J's and K's visas to Brazil. The friggin' notary at the bank, upon seeing one of the documents to be notarized was a copy of J's birth certificate, asked, "Oh, did you adopt him?" To which I replied: "No, we bought him at Macy's." WTH?). After J went to bed, K and I had take-out and watched part of a movie ("Arthur").

I'll tell you what we did not do on Sunday: we didn't look at houses! We had a couple more errands to run (CVS for visa photos, etc), and in the evening I went through a year's worth of photos of J for his one-year book. That was super fun - I can't believe how much he has grown!

I am so sorry, but I LOLed that you told the clerk your bought him at Macy's.

I have ZERO patience for stupidity. Smile

  • Friday: I worked late and got home after the kids were down for the night. This may be the biggest reason I agree to keep co-sleeping. I MISS them!

Saturday: We had my family over for a low(ish) key brunch which was great. Then a long family nap and a chill evening at home.

Sunday: I went to Church in the morning while Kel and the kids slept in. Then we all went over to the in-laws and brought Indian take-out (yum!) for dinner. After the kids went down, I worked for a couple hours.

  • Friday Night-  Made homemade chicken soup and DW worked on her thesis.  We were both bumming form the BFN and just kinda chilled when she was done working.

Saturday- DW finished her thesis...yayayayay!!!  I got an email from my number one choice grad school that a decision had been made regarding my app and I would recieve notification within a week...ugggg why couldnt they just tell me the decision.  After DW finished formatting the final version of her thesis we finished our xmas shopping and ran an errand for my mom.  I was feeling under the weather and DW was beat so we skipped the beer but had some very yummy no-baby-this- cycle sushi.

Sunday- Woke up feeling slightly more poopy. Had our best couple friends over for whole wheat pizza and football...Go Ravens!!!!  It was a fantastically relaxing evening just chilling with another couple.  However by the time I went to bed I was feeling like complete S%*T.  Woke this morning and cancelled my sub job.  Have not gotten out of my jammies and kinda wanna curl up an die.  No doc appts available so if I am not feeling better later tonight time to rock the righttime care center, gotta love urget care.

We had three BFN in the Fall of 2011. It is back on to some baby making come June. Swim little fellas, SWIM!!!!

The rule for naps/overnights is 5 wakings with dry diapers. Typically it takes kids awhile to achieve this (The boys PT at 3y3m and Grayson was dry overnight around 3y 9m and Carter was 4.5y.) For long car trips, we sometimes put a pull-up on over underwear (so they would still wet and know they had an accident) or we bought plastic underwear from Target as "travel underwear." We traveled with a portable potty forever.

Thanks!  Eli wakes up about 75% of the time dry from naps and maybe 60% from overnights. So we will probably rock the diapers a bit longer.

  • I don't remember what happened when but I know we visited my IL's a couple times, I offended my MIL (nothing that should have offended her, she is overly sensitive), attempted to sleep, ate at our favorite Chinese restaurant, bought a snappi and Thirsties cover, and tried to get pics with Santa but he was booked.

I think that's all, my brain isn't working so well with the little bits of semi-sleep I've been getting.

yeah, sorry, diaper-free wasnt completly accurate - she's in a pull up overnight but so far has done okay with car trips and naps (::knock on wood::).

  • my weekend did not go as planned. it was productive, but everything I really wanted to do pretty much just didn't happen--other than the Japanese steakhouse on Friday, that is. we did get the carport and patio cleaned up and things (mostly) stowed away for the winter, but we didn't get our tree up or make it to the zoo. oh well.
