yeah, very little of what we listen to is kid friendly (and I voted folk, etc). I do listen to a lot of classic rock and 90s too. I don't think she pays enough attention to the music to understand what the lyrics are yet.
My music of choice on the radio is country. I just like the words, the meanings, and how I relate to the songs. My sister is an opera singer so I have been known to pop in one of her performance cds and listen to them. And when the mood suits me I will listen to other stuff like James Taylor or Jimmy Buffet, but for the most part I reserve those for when I am with DH because he loves his Mettalica and it gives me a headache so we compromise.
I like a nice mixture of showtunes, bluegrass, 80's big hair bands, and 90's country.
Is that weird?
Not at all! A true music lover can find the good in all genres of music. I voted rock /alternative/classic because that is what I listen too most, but I usually like anything that is well done and not about money, alcohol and I don't really care for anything using the word baby unless it's meant for a baby to listen too.
DS loves rock as well. Last week he threw the chair blocking the radio out of the way, turned on the radio and went back and turned it up when it wasn't loud enough for him. He prefers to rock out too. He jammed to Rock You Like a Hurricane and then ran away when Turkey in the Straw came on.
You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.

I don't put easy listenig/contemporary in the same category as pop/top 40 at all. While I generally prefer the current "hits," most easy listening makes me want to spork out my eyes.
So this poll was hard for me to answer.
I also love quite a bit of the retro 80s/90s stuff, some alternative/rock, and some hip hop/R&B.
However, I really dislike most country unless it is very crossover friendly. And Jimmy Buffet and that genre makes me want to hurl.

they aren't the same category, i just didn't want a gazillion poll answers
I actually really like hip hop and rap, but I don't listen to it in the car if DS is with me. We have kid friendly stuff or we listen to Christmas music this time of year!
Sometimes I'll just put on the pop station if I can't force myself to listen to kids' songs or Christmas music.

The last 2 years I've been really into country, so that's what I chose. Before then I would've said pop and hip hop - I still listen to it occasionally but I think it gets old fast now. There are so many awesome country stars out there now that I just love it!!
Re: s/o music. Genre clicky inside

I didn't like country until about 4 years ago, now it's all I listen to. I can't stand most of the Top 40 stuff.
*grabs bag of Cheetos and settles in to watch ACA Awards*
Definitely hip hop, rap, and R&B. The closest thing to country that I like is the Nelly and Garth Brooks duet.
I think you mean Tim McGraw.
Mm. I do love Tim McGraw's ass.
Baha, shows how much I know about country.
