Potty Training Question

We started PT'ing on Saturday because DS was doing so well at daycare last week.  He's doing great with going pee on the potty.  He only had a couple of accidents this weekend.  Yay! But the bad news is that he doesn't "get" how to poop on the potty at all.  He held it all day yesterday until this morning when he realized he had an overnight diaper on.

Any tips/advice regarding potty training your DC to go #2 on the potty?

TIA!

Re: Potty Training Question

  • Megan did something very similar, I think its pretty normal.  She would hold it in and only go every other day. It was hard to catch her before an accident happened and take her to the potty.  But once I was able to see her about to poop signs and get her to the potty she started to get it.  It just took a little more time because with only 1 chance every other day there are not a lot of moments to learn!  We did read some poop books too.  No idea if they helped but I figured it was worth a shot.  We read Everyone Poops and Where's the Poop.

Good luck! And yay on the PTing going so well so far!  That's exciting!

  • We need to start PTing very soon too.  The boys totally get the pee thing, but not so much on the poop.  That's why I'm scared to start.  Hoping people chime in with brilliant suggestions.

  • For me I had to watch him closely and when I saw he was trying to poop I'd say "you need to use the potty" he'd usually say yes and we'd go.  We did this for a while and now he usually says when he needs to poop.  DH doesn't watch him and DS sometimes poops in his pamper when they're together.  But my issue is peeing in the potty.  DS NEVER asks when he has to pee.  I usally make him go every two hours or so and he will.  When he has an accident he loves to bring me a clean underwear.  I don't know what to do about that.
