Re: not related to preschool: Where to Vacation?
I guess it depends on what you like to do. I just had my first week away with DH since DD was born and honestly, I think it would have been amazing no matter where we went. Paris, however, was a very nice place to be with DH without a small child (although it's also super child friendly). If you're not into the idea of being out and about walking and exploring a new city, though, I'm sure just about any beach resort where you can sit around and relax would be fabulous.
Have fun!
Depends what you like. I love taking beach vacations, but after having DS we like to keep busy. We went to Arizona last year (with DS) and did a lot of "hiking" type activities. Although I would do a sit-on-my-butt-drink-margaritas vacation in a heartbeat!
We went to Maui for our 10th over Thanksgiving (2006). It was my one and only beach vacation and it was amazing! We mostly relaxed, but we also did some jogging, kayaking, took a surf lesson, took a boat/snorkeling trip, shopped, and went to a luau. I would definitely recommend it. Fantastic!

I love these two beautiful children!
Really depends on what you like, your budget (although I believe you can do almost anything on budget) and time of year. I love the Princess Resort and Spa in Scottsdale (Fairmont property). They have an incredible spa and the most amazing adults only pool. It has a two story drop at one end that creates the most relaxing waterfall to listen too. I've been both in July and Christmas time and love it.
If you're looking at winter I'd do what ever is close to you where you can rent a house (vrbo.com) and enjoy the snow. If you want to get away from the snow, Key West is awesome but you must have a place on the water to make it worth it, IMO. I supposed anywhere you can stare at the ocean would be equally awesome.
I love Spain and there are some coastal areas that are very, very cheaply priced. We did a trip where we used Madrid as a base and went to the coast for a few weeks from there. Rented an apartment on the coast for two weeks for $700!
We honeymooned in Negril, at Rockhouse Hotel (a small "boutique" style resort) and loved it. https://www.rockhousehotel.com/escape.php
Have fun! I'm jealous- I don't think we will ever take a big vaca again...
What do you like?
I love the Carribean. Puerto Rico is my favorite (but I am biased considering I'm Puerto Rican). Hawaii is a never fail! We are thinking Bahamas this year.
Unless you are a big drinker I don't like All-Inclusive resorts. The food isn't as high of a quality as I would prefer. I'm not big on cruises either b/c again you are sort of stuck and the food quality is poor.
Europe is lovely. British Isles are great for the history nerds. You can always do an off-beat backpacking tour of some of the less visited places like Romania and Vienna. I've done both. I would love to do France and Italy next or Spain and France.
Vegas is great fun, used to live there.
I think the most romantic place we've been is Napa in California. I'm usually a stickler for island beach vacations but two years ago we took a 5 day trip there and it was awesome. We stayed at the Meritage Resort (one of their restaurants was featured on an old season of Top Chef) and we went during the 4th of July holiday so there were lots of things to do: concert downtown, street food, and lots of fireworks. The spa there is amazing and the food and wine are 5 star. The best part of it all was our last dinner at Michael Chiarello's restaurant. We ate every course from appetizer to desert. The funny part was that on the first season of RHWofBH, Kyle and her husband ate there. (I'm a reality TV junkie in case you can't tell! LOL)
I should also say that last summer we vacationed in Cancun. I know you said you wanted to try something different but we stayed at the La Amada Resort and their spa is by far the best spa I've ever been to. The service at the hotel is excellent and if you get the penthouse suite the views of the ocean are stunning. I hope you have an excellent time no matter where you go and congrats on your upcoming anniversary!
Like everyone else said, it depends on what you're looking for. We went to Sandals in St Lucia for our honeymoon and it is wonderful. If you're really into water sports etc I've heard that Belize and Costa Rica are amazing.
If you're up for Europe, Paris is unbelievably romantic as is Florence or Venice.
Thanks everyone! My head is now buzzing with excitment!
Check out Caneel Bay on St. John--it is such a beautiful island.
Also, Peter island is a fantastic place--it is a resort on a private island so the resort is the only thing there--they pick you up on a boat in Tortola. It is was so relaxing and they have the best spa--we also did a snorkeling trip to the Baths on Virgin Gorda.
Also, love Napa/Sonoma area--great restaurants, romantic inns, beautiful scenery--it would be a really fun vacation if you enjoy wine.
And there are lots of luxury spas in Arizona!
Have fun planning!!
