C-sections

When did the swelling go away?

I didn't swell at all while pregnant, but after the c section I blew up like a balloon. The doctors said it was normal and would take a while to go away- they said it was all the extra fluid pumped through iv in addition to the blood my body had been making tadvice to the baby. Tomorrow will vbe a week and I am still sporting the double cankles. I weighed myself and I weigh the same as I did before I delivered. Just wondering how long it took others to "de-swell." I can't recall this happening after my vaginal birth with DS #1.

Re: When did the swelling go away?

  • I think it took about 2 weeks for the swelling to noticeably go down.  But I still think I was losing water weight for a while after delivery.  By my 6 week check, I felt back to normal and I remember being able to wear my rings again by then.

  • mine went away by two weeks.  But that also could be because they gave me a mild water pill to help with my blood pressure (after delivery- I still had dangerously high BP)
  • It took about 2 1/2 weeks to see it but I'm almost 4 weeks pp and I still have some water weight.
  • I was incredibly swollen during my pg, if that makes any difference.  I was 8 days post op when I posted this on FB:

"Well, hello ankles!  So nice to see you again after 20 weeks!"

It was a very exciting day for me.

  • My swelling went away a few days after coming home, I think it was about a week. Maybe 10 days. Its like it was there and then it was gone and I was back to normal again.
  • 2-3 weeks post-op. I barely gained any water weight and was so bloated from all the IV fluids, that my feet and lower calves felt like they were going to explode. I never felt so much pain and pressure. It hurt worse than my post-op c-section pain.

  • The first time the swelling in my feet went down within a week. The second time it was a good 2 weeks until I felt normal. Over a week for the pain in my feet to go away.

  • It was about 2.5 weeks before the swelling disappeared and then it literally happened overnight. I had gotten so used to seeing my big, swollen feet & ankles that it took me a couple of weeks to get used to seeing them skinny again and back to their regular size.

  • I lost 30 lbs in 4 days after ~2 wks.  It was really uncomfortable and upsetting for me.  I ate lots of watermelon and even asparagus as supposedly they are both natural diuretics(so says the web). Hope you lose all that water soon!
