At 40 weeks I was still 1 cm and 50% they scheduled a c/s with the stipulation that if I was more than 2 cm's I could try for a VBAC.
When I arrived I was 1-2 cm's but my OB said we could try a foley bulb to open the cervix since I could not get cervadil. At 1pm I started on pitocin and they recommended an early epi. After an epi the foley bulb was inserted and an HOUR later my water broke and I was 4-5 cm's. The nurse suggested I relax for a while. Three hours later babys heart rate started going crazy and I was still 5 cm's. They gave me an hour to progress a few more cm's. I immediately sat up in bed and about 10 pm I was 8 cm's!
After that things moved rather quickly. Although I could not feel the pain of the contractions I still felt them and tried to breath through them. I breathed my baby down and at 12 am I started pushing. Immediately after two docs and five nurses responded and I pushed for about 20 minutes. I had a 2nd degree tear that was quickly stitched and I was all done!
Overall I recommend the foley bulb to open the cervix. Otherwise I would still be in the hospital recovering from a c/s. Also, when getting the epi, be mindful that you still need extra oxygen when contracting and be sure to utilized your breathing.
