Hey there,
My husband and I in our 30's and are are happily expecting a little one in mid-May. We're a little intimidated as we don't have family in the area and our pregnant and new parent buds all live elsewhere.
Would be great to hear of any folks is a similar situation, and/or recommendations of good daycare centers and nannys around. I'm also trying to stay in shape and keep up with an exercise routine, and it would be nice to catch up with some other ladies in a similar situation for motivation and company.
Cheers!
Re: North side mommas
Welcome to the area and the board. I'm up in Lynnwood. Not sure how far north you are. This is a wonderful group of ladies that i'm sure will give you lots of advice. I dont have family very close they are all a couple hrs away, but we do have several friends with little ones my DD age. I don't know of any nannies, or daycare since my DH and I switch off on our work days. Depending on where you live you could check out the Y in shoreline, they have a pool that would be ideal for exercising while pg. I like the rec center here in Lynnwood where I do Zumba once a week. Would probably be a little too much for someone pg. If you wanted to go for a stroll lots of that to be had. Greenlake is nice on a sunny day, or lots of parks around. Hope that helps.
We were in your situation when we had our son. I have made tons of mom friends through the birth class we took (we went through Great Starts), the Evergreen Parent-Baby Groups and this board. A lot of people love PEPS too.
Welcome!
Where in the north end do you live? I live in Shoreline, and belong to the Y. Like PP said, it is a GREAT place to work out, and after you have your LO, you can use their daycare facilities for up to 2 hours a day for free (though my 2 year old refuses to stay there, the care givers are super nice and it is a great facility, I am now trying to figure out ways to bribe him to behave while there). I go to Greenlake at least once a week when the weather is decent, feel free to join me any time!
I live in Kirkland, and we are expecting our first child at the end of March.
I'm looking into starting the prentatal yoga classes at Evergreen in a few weeks, as well as aquafit classes at the Juanita pool. We will most likely start out prental classes at Evergreen in February as well....
I live in Kenmore. I'm in my late 30's and my husband is in his early 40's. We really like the area, though our friends are mostly on the Seattle or Eastside and not north like us.
We've found two northside daycares we like- Springtime near our place (along Juanita) and Evergreen Academy in Totem Lake. We'd love to do a nanny share, but haven't found another family to team up with yet- again due to location.
I'm due in February and plan to try to stay active. Right now we work out at Columbia Athletic Club in Juanita (love it), but I'll probably also get outdoors for walks on the BG trail. Feel free to PM if you ever want to meet up.
