EPO and raspberry leaf tea

I hate tea and would never stick a capsule in my vag, but I'm desperate to get this kid out before next week (next week will be c-section scheduled). Anybody have luck with either of these? I'm going to talk to my doc today about membrane sweep and if they recommend the EPO. I am just wondering what you girls have experienced (those who have had their babies obviously)

Re: EPO and raspberry leaf tea

  • I've been using these because I'm hoping for a VBAC.  I haven't had my baby but things have definitely progressed since I started.  I drink about 4 cups of RRLT every day. This from what others have told me doesn't bring on labor but will make it easier because it increases the strength of your uterus.  The EPO I have been taking up the hoo haw for 4 days and since I started taking it I have dropped and started losing my mucus plug.  I'm hoping it means progress.  I don't want to go beyond my due date because of the decrease in successful VBACs and as a personal note I don't want to have a baby on Christmas.  Good luck.

  • raspberry leaf tea won't put you into labor, but it will help to tone your uterus for labor, and is rumored to make the 2nd stage of labor "easier". Lots of women drink it when they are not pregnant, and it is cleared from 2nd tri on by many OBGYN's and Midwives...

I started EPO at 40 weeks with my first, went into labor 2 days later.

  • I haven't tried EPO, and I also haven't had my baby yet, but am pretty sure that red raspberry leaf tea doesn't (shouldn't?) induce labor -- it is supposed to help tone your ute for more effective contractions once they do start (I've been drinking it since 34 weeks).

    Maybe worth a try anyway...

I hope Miss Leila gets a move on regardless, so you can avoid a c-section --  I know you are ready for her!

i can't go past 39 weeks for the vbac so I am trying to get baby out asap. I guess I'll go pick up some EPO today. I wish she would just come on already.

evening primrose oil - it is a capsule, it can be taken orally, but for the purpose of labor people put them up their vagina and the oil is supposed to help things along down there.

  • I'm in the same situation with a c-section scheduled 12/19 my 39th week and trying for a vbac. I'm starting both today along with sit/bounce on exercises ball, increase sex, eat pineapple, and eggplant parmesean. Good luck. Let us know what your doctor says about EPO or doing a ms.

  • I haven't tried them but had a co-worker that claimed the EPO helped her progress.
  • I asked my doc about them today and he said that there have been no scientifically valid studies proving they work. But he also said it wouldn't hurt anything, so I may try it anyway... GL getting things going!

  • Daily intercourse will give the same effects as EPO- and it's free :)

LOL, yea but the EPO hurts less and requires less work. DH says the last time we did it, he could feel her head and refuses to give me any so I think I better give the EPO a shot.

  • I think it may be too late in the game for either to be particularly effective

    huh??

I would never start taking anything before full term, so why wouldn't they be effective at 38 weeks?

The raspberry leaf tea tones your uterus and is recommended by many midwives to be taken throughout the pregnancy to maintain healthy tone and to help with labor once it starts. Nothing about RLT is going to "induce" you and drinking it for one week is not going to make much of a difference.

EPO is recommended to be taken orally at 34w and vaginally at 36w with an increased dosage at 38w. This is another supplement that will not induce labor, just as sex will not induce labor before the "full term" mark in a healthy pregnancy. EPO is very similar in effect as semen as a previous poster mentioned and will help soften the cervix.
