I know that they say not to use baby bumpers. My bedding set came with bumpers and most do so I am so confused. I am wondering if you use them as they get older or should I just trash them??
We didn't use them at all, until about 10 months old when we used the breathable kind. He was getting his arms and legs stuck through the slats of the crib, and it was SO annoying (we have a video monitor, so we watched it all). We did those for a month or two, and then moved in the regular bumpers which we've used ever since. I wouldn't use them with a tiny baby, but by the time we did he was year old. He LOVES his bumpers, sleeps with his head near them (the top of his head), and I've never worried about him at this age.
We are just holding on to ours until LO gets older and then we will reevaluate if we want to use them. You could also do a Google search on ways to re-purpose them if you don't plan on using them at all.
Here is an eHow link with suggestions! We might do something listed in there too.
I used mine for my first as decoration in the room. My second set for the new baby actually didn't come with themn (you had to purchase them seperately if you wanted them).
I did however purchase the breathable bumpers. My first sticks her arm through the latches of her crib if they aren't on there and i'm scared she's going to get hurt in her sleep (she tosses and turns a lot). We've had no problems with them and you can breath even if your face is up to them (it's just mesh).
Like PPs mentioned, I'm turning mine into window valances. I registered for breathable bumpers just in case we ever need them, but I think that the bumpers that came with our bedding will actually be cuter on the windows.
I love the idea to turn them into window decor! We didn't get any from our showers, and we won't be purchasing any. If getting stuck in the slats becomes a problem when he's older, we'll look into the breathable bumpers.
Re: Bumpers
I'm going to repurpose mine as wall decorations.
