I have been running the last 6 months, barely could run a 1/4 mile when I started and have worked my way up to 4 mile runs and probably will be able to complete a 10k in the spring. I live in a small-ish town but it has a lot of great trails for both running and biking (there is a huge bike even here every year). Anywho, MH has been making comments that everything has a 5k and 10k now- not many 1/2s here. He implied it was trendy. I was wondering if its because I have started running that we just see more or is it actually trendy? What say you?
Trendy makes since economically. It is a sport in which you can spend little money and still participate (of course, you can spend lots too : )
eta: I am not a regular on here but post sometimes but thought I might get different answers. I may XP this to parenting (where I generally hang) as there are a lot of runners there too.
Re: Is running trendy?
Agreed.
Nah, I don't think it is trendy. My parents always ran and I remember tons of 5K and 10K races in my (small) town when I was little.
I think of things like anti-gravity yoga or Zumba as being trendy.

No, although there are trends with in running.
Example- obstacle races, mud races, and minimalist running to name a few.
It doesn't matter and trendy isn't necessarily a bad thing, its a great thing in this case! I am well aware they people have been running for all of time. I guess the question was more specific to races (5K, 1/2, ect)...but thanks for your sunshine.
Funny, I got the opposite responses on parenting.
