Question about flying w/ 2 lap children

We just flew to Europe w/ our 2 as "lap children"... Delta wouldn't let us sit next to each other, but instead we sat across an aisle from one another, because two lap children can't sit in the same row.

Anyone else heard of this/experienced it? It was a major bummer (and an awful trip for various reasons), but this really sucked. Just wondering if it's universal, or just Delta?

Southwest does this too, it sucks! There just can't be more than 4 people per row.

I think this happens with most (if not all) airlines. If I remember correctly it's because there's only one "extra" oxygen mask per row so if you have 2 lap kids one would end up without a mask in case of emergency.

Yup, last time we flew they changed our seat that we had selected online, because someone with a lap child had already checked in before us.

Happened to us too! Made for an awful experience since we couldn't share the toys and food we packed.

It's airline policy (I'm assuming on all airlines but has been on the ones I've traveled on) and for safety. They typically only have 7 oxygen masks across a row of 6 so having 2 lap babies in a row would be 8 individuals and someone wouldn't have an oxygen mask in an emergency.
