Non stress tests?

So now my doctor wants to do these to monitor the baby. But I'm not sure why he wants them. Is this standard with placenta previa or two vessel cords? Everything else checks out fine. I'm sure he has best intentions.

Re: Non stress tests?

  • I'm pretty sure they are standard with any kind of possible complication.  I had to have a few with Gavin b/c of gestational diabetes and reduced fetal movement.  I only had to have one with Sophie and again it was reduced fetal movement (I make lazy babies).

  • I had to have them twice a WEEK when I was preggo with Abby.  For me, it was because of the GD.  I think Drs are just really overcautious sometimes.  It checks for any contractions and fetal heartbeat/movement etc.  It's pretty obnoxious to have to go in so often, but I always left feeling really good.  They were able to pick up on contractions I didn't know I was having, and make sure her heartrate was strong even through them.

  • It is common with placenta previa. A good friend had them for that exact reason. It is a pain to go so often (i had them quite often with both pregnancies, but for different reasons) but I did like the constant reassurance that all was well!:)
