Hi there!
H and I are interested in CDing LO when he/she makes his/her arrival in April. I am reading through the FAQs, but I am not entirely sure how many CDs I should have to start with, since it seems like some of you had to try a couple of different brands before you sound one that worked for your LO.
Should I register for some CDs from a couple of different brands to see what works best for us?
TIA!
Re: How many to start?
Most people on here recommend the trials from jilliansdrawers.com and others. It might be a good option for you as you can order it before LO arrives and send it back after you've tried it. As far as registering goes, this is my OPINION. Register for whatever and however much you think you might like based on reviews and preference, but only prep one or two of each so you can return brands/styles you don't like for something you do.
Most recommendations are 24-36 diapers (whether those are All In Ones, Pockets, Prefolds, fitteds, etc.) for newborns. If you use fitteds or prefolds or falts or lay-in inserts you'll also need 6-8 waterproof covers.
For older babies: about 24 diapers of whatever style in each size. If you choose One-size diapers you'll probably spend less money, but these usually don't fit newborns. You'll also need waterproof covers if you are still using fitteds prefolds or inserts. You typically need fewer as baby gets older. Maybe 4-6.
As far as starting off, if you don't want to do a trial, you can start with how ever many you are comfortable with. If you don't want to CD full-time until you know what diapers you like, you don't have to. If you are okay with laundry everyday until you figure out which ones you like, fewer diapers can put you in cloth full-time.
HTH.
Yes, it does! Thanks! I didn't know there were samples. That's awesome!
5 cats. 1 baby.
A few companies offer them although I don't remember who all does. There may be a link in the FAQs or just google cloth diaper trials. Just be sure to read the fine print. I think most require a deposit and then you get all but like $10 back, or your refund is store credit, etc.
Happy shopping CDing is addictive. Also Target has a few brands on their website and offer a 10% off discount of anything left on your registry after your EDD.
