No gallbladder & pregnant

Hi everyone! After having my first child in 2010, I had to have my gallbladder removed. I am now 5 weeks with baby number 2! I know that typically in early pregnancy constipation is a pretty well know symptom, well I have the oposite problem (and have had since gallbladder removal) sorry for TMI. Any other Mommas experiencing this problem too? Going to doc on Tues, but wanted some feedback. Thanks!!

Re: No gallbladder & pregnant

  • Thanks for your response! It may not be related and I dont think its much to be concerned about, just uncomfortable.

  • I had my gallbladder removed when I was in my early twenties.  I am pregnant with my first child.  I had never connected my constipation with my earlier surgery before now.  I read that gas is normal during pregnancy, which I have plenty of,  but I haven't had any severe constipation or bloating. I eat a salad every day, and drink plenty of pulpy natural fruit drinks.  I also limit my coffee intake to one cup a day.  Maybe this will become more of an issue the further I get into my pregnancy? Don't know.
  • Constipation is mostly only an issue in early pregnancy & not every one experiences it. I just became concerned with the diarreah issue because thats something that happens to me before my cycle comes and I have had 2 chemical pregnancies. I'm not so much worried now though, I just have to remind myself that this is an issue I have because of not having my gallbladder. My body didn't react well to having it removed. I will get full piece of mind when I go in for my first OB appointment on Tuesday.

  • I had my gallbladder out over 2 yrs ago. The first 7 weeks or so of pregnancy I had diarrhea   Now I have constiptation. It seems that is fairly normal, gallbladder or not. I didn't have too many bathroom issues in that area, besides right after getting it removed.

  • I had to have mine removed six weeks after birth. I have the same problem as you, but I had it during my first pregnancy too. They claim that it's just how my body reacts to the pregnancy. I did find that it took about a year after gb removal for things to go back to normal. I had to watch what I ate because if it was too fattty, I had to make sure I was close to the bathroom. The dr said it does take awhile for your body to get use to digesting fats without a gb.

  • Thats my exact situation. 6 weeks after birth and then took a year to balance back out. I also have to watch what I eat. I'm glad to know that having the bathroom issue is common in early pregnancy with no gb. That gives me piece of mind! Thanks ladies!
