having themes to showers

I am pregnant with twins & having 4 showers 1) my work 2) my family & friends 3) dH's family &4) small shower with wives of dH's friends.Both family showers will be large ~30-50 people, but the other 2 showers will be smaller ~10-20 People. A friend recommended making the small showers themed...I.e. Make one of them a diaper Shower. What do you think about this idea & what should the other theme be?

Wedding Fall 2007 Off OCP's since 9/08-started with BBT charts Saw Ob/gyn May 2009 Blood work normal except single copy of MTHFR Clomid 50mg May 2009 Clomid 50mg + IUI June 2009 Femara 5mg + IUI July 2009 Normal HSG July 2009 Femara 5mg + ovidrel+IUI August 2009 Femara 5mg +ovidrel + IUI September 2009 November 2009-normal lap December 2009-met with RE December/January-Injectible med cycle with IUI-Abnormal sperm morpology found-only 0-1% normal All Head defects. Jan/Feb 2010 1st IVF with ICSI-5 week chemical pregnancy :( Feb 2010-male infertility doc says DH's anatomy and blood work are normal so nothing he can do. :( FET July 2010-BFP! Twin m/c @ 5.5 wks :( Dec/Jan 2011 IVF #2 Only 4 eggs retrieved-Ganirelix dose messed up BFFN Feb/March 2011 IVF #3 ER 3/9 9 eggs, 7 fertilized, ET 3/14, No frosties. BFN IVF #4 ER 8/22 9R,7F ET 8/25-3 embies, 1 frostie! Beta 9/2= 54, 9/6=274, 9/8=625, 9/12=2953, 9/16 greater than 10,000. B/G TWINS born April 2012 @ 36wks & 1 day! July 2014-going back for the frozen embryo! ET 7/28, heartbeat seen at 6wks1day with SCH. Miscarriage confirmed at 6wks4days

    I had 3 showers and none of them had themes.  I think it's better to just allow your guests to buy you what they want.

    I am not really into themed showers meaning a type of gift. Now, I will say that I had a group of friends get together and bring freezer meals as a type of shower and I thought that was a great idea.

    I think "baby" is a good enough theme for a shower.... anything else has the tendency to get tacky / cheesy real fast!

    Freezer meals are awesome, but personally I don't have room for more than 4 at a time in my freezer, so not sure its the most practical shower "theme" idea. 

    Don't stress about this now... you are only 15 weeks along. Leave this up to your hosts.

    True, I am 16 wks tomorrow, but @ 12 wks, my uterus measured 16-18wks (to give an idea ofHow different a twin pregnancy is).Most twin moms have showers between 24-28 wks. I will potentially end up on an unpaid bedrest & will be Registering after Christmas. My hostesses will do anything I want-This is likely our one &Only pregnancy & we're having 2 babies! So, we are trying to plan ahead to be as prepared as weCan. My showers are already planned between Jan 29-march 4. I have a busy work schedule & Have 60 hour call weekends, so we had to pick dates already. Thanks for the feedback. Sorry for formatting-on my iPad.

    I really don't think the hosts should be putting this on you.  They're the one planning and paying for it.  I'm sure they want you to feel involved but I find it unnecessary.  I love themes because it gives me a focus and makes the planning process so much more fun.  I think you should just let them know that whatever they decide to do (theme or no theme) as long as it's not in bad etiquette is fine with you.

    Since you are having 4 showers with 2 being fairly large and the other 2 small, theme showers would be fine.  Certainly one being a "diaper shower" and if you have lots of freezer space, another being a "freezer meal" shower (although personally I'd probably get you a gift card to a local restuarant that has carry out).  I think it is a great idea and would really help you out.

    I feel bad putting the burden on someone to plan my baby shower. So my husband and I started planning our own baby shower. Any advise?

    I don't really like the theme idea.  If I had a friend having twins I would want to get her something personal, not just diapers if that was the theme.  I enjoy picking out cute gifts for friends and other people just like to get a box of diapers so let your guests pick what they want to get you.

    I think it varies upon situation. I have a group of friends throwing me a "shower" I put it in quotations because none of them have ever been to a shower nor are interested in such things but I don't know what else to call it... They are my college friends, we are all about the same age (22-26) I am the only person most of them know (that is this age) who is married, they still live at home and are very focused on MA's and Pd.D's  etc (not settling down, or babies). They are doing this for me because they love me even if they don't really get it. I am not going to make a regitstry for this event and if they askl what I want I will tell them books and cloth diapers. If the host of this shower were to ask about having a gift theme I would tell her this. I figure that in this particular situation it's OK because it is something they can afford and is something they would like to buy.

    So for you- think about the group and the situation. Chances are you do not need 4 showers worth of NB and 0-6 month sized clothes and cutsie things...
