  Roo - like when you make a soup and need to thicken it...that way is spelled Roux...but looks similar.

  I've not seen that spelling before, usually it's Roux, Laroux, or Leroux.  Means red or the red haired one.

  My first thought was Ree-oo...but Roo makes more sense, I guess.

  I know two families with this last name. One says "ree-oo" and the other says "ree-oh"

  Roux= RooRioux= ree-oWhether or not Jeopardy realizes how Rioux is pronounced is a different story.

  It's ROO, Louisiana girl here. We start most dishes, especially gumbo, with a rioux. There is no other pronunciation for the word.

  A ROUX (without an I) starts a dish, I dont know what a RIOUX (with an I) will get you. But since its not a cullinary term im not guessing it will be anything tasty.
