nbr: house next to what use to be a corn field

I posted this before but don't think I explained it correctly.  We'll be looking at a couple houses where the back yard connects to what use to be a corn field, the houses are less than 10 years old.  The field is cut down so it just looks like an open greenspace field.  I'm not sure how many years the field hasn't been in use.  Since you have LOs, would you be concerned about chemicals that were once used in the fields still being there or being in the soil of the houses/yard where LOs will be playing?

They cannot build supermarkets or anything like that there since there are houses that surround it.  If anything, they could just build another development one day.

  • Quite honestly,I wouldn't be worried at all.. We live on an acreage and are totally surrounded by cornfields/bean fields... Our kids ride the four wheeler in the fields before planting and after harvest (when chemicals would be "fresh") and so far haven't come up with any extra fingers and toes.. And if it isn't in use, then really, you wouldn't even need to be worried about them getting lost in the corn..

  • Nope. Pretty much everything around here was at one point a farm.

  • I wouldn't be worried at all.  Then again, I live in WI, where there are cornfields everywhere-I've never thought to be worried.

  • You probably expose your kids to more chemicals in your home (cleaning supplies, hairspray, etc.) than they would get from long-ago farmed soil. It would not bother me.

Whoa. They won't grow extra fingers or toes, dumbass, they will get cancer. Look up cancer rates for farmers.
