Any dentists out there? NTR

I had two fillings done about 3 weeks ago and my teeth are killing me. I kept thinking it would get better but it's only getting worse. Both of the teeth he filled are hurting, same side of the mouth, top and bottom, back right molars. I also feel like the corner area of my jaw hurts where he put the novacaine needle. I called yesterday and made an appt for Tuesday but I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into what I can expect or what the problem may be?

  • Does the tooth hurt that you got the filling in?

This is what happened to me when I had a tooth filled a few years back. Turns out I had a tiny crack in the tooth...needed a root canal and a crown. It was awful.

They think becuase of it being in the back (molar) and haivng it filled, it left it not as strong. I guess I also grind my teeth in the middle of the night and the pressure caused the crack on the first night I had it filled.

    Good luck

  • I'm not a dentist but worked as a dental assistant for several years. My first thought is that the filling is too high. Depending on how deep the cavity was, it could be something more serious but I bet they just need to adjust your bite a little.

  • I will be in May, does that count? I also think probably the filling is high. It's hard to tell without looking at you. Do you happen to have a nightguard? If you do, wear it as much as possible during the day as night and that might help. If it doesn't help, something else might be the matter. Also, as far as where the injection was given, take ibuprofen. The muscle that is sometimes penetrated when giving an IA injection (for a lower tooth) can get inflamed pretty easily by a needle. That discomfort sometimes doesn't go away for several weeks, sorry to say. HTH!
  • Not a dentist but I had the same issue - my dentist said teeth can be sensitive for a few weeks after having the white fillings - mine were and it eventually stopped.  Hope that helps.
