Austin Babies

Anyone have exp with Pediatric Cardiology of Austin?

Camy needs to be seen by a cardiologist and Chang told us to go to whoever on his list could get us in the soonest. So, we are going to see Dr. Goldstein at Pediatric Cardiology of Austin on Wednesday.

I have no idea what to expect, and I'm a tad freaked out, so if anyone has seen a dr at this group that could give me some info, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

  • No, but I hope everything is ok and Chang is just being conservative! (((hugs)))

  • Yes, we have seen dr Shapiro with my littlest. He is seriously one of the nicest, most thorough drs that we have ever seen. I haven't been to their new office but their old one was super kid friendly and they have so many interactive things for the kids to play with/look at while they are getting tests run. So, I can only imagine that their new office is even better. Our pedi whom i love recommends their office so I would think they are all pretty good! :) hope it's nothing and that you have a good experience and that it's nothing major!

Ditto.  I'll hold good thoughts for your sweet Cam.

  • Luke was seen by Dr. Shapiro when he was newborn.  I have no experience otherwise and am not sure which practice he is with.

I hate that this is yet another thing you guys are having to deal with for sweet Camy Lou.  :(   I hope you get the all-clear from whoever you see.

  • It is a different practice, but my son saw Dr. Johnson at Children's Cardiology Associates. He was recommended by my pediatrician.

My son has an innocent heart murmur and my pedi just wanted to get it double-checked. They did an EKG (which was pretty terrible, only b/c all the sticky things all over him really freaked him out and he was screaming the entire time) and a sonogram. The sonogram part was fine b/c they had a TV playing Sesame Street, which distracted him.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for the info everyone.

And Feisty, Shapiro is with the same group we are going to, but I don't if its the same office.

  • We saw Dr. Holt for Ryan when he was <1  (functional heart murmur, Megan and DH have them too).  He was awesome!  The staff at Pediatric Cardiology was great too.  We went to the office somewhere down near Dell Childrens and by near I mean not close to where we live, but down in the general facillity of Dell ;-)

The did two tests one was an eco cardiogram (I'm sure that's totally spelled wrong) and I cant' remember the other.  The first was right in an exam room, they just wheeled in some equiptment and put some electrodes on Ryan and that was it.  It didn't hurt, and it was quick.  The second was in a second room and he had to lay down and be still  so they could look at something.  In my head I'm mixing this up with Megan's ultrasound she had as a newborn so I can't distingish the two, sorry!  But it was just hard because he had to be still and positioned a certain way so they could get a look at something.  I think it would be easier with a 2yo because they had a TV/stuff that will keep their attention but Ryan was just a baby and wasn't interested in any of that.

Overall it was a super easy visit!  And like pp said, lots of toys and very kid friendly!

  • Goldstein is new. He has an interesting personality and may not be everyone's cup of tea. The other 3 are awesome.

Oh, boy. I don't know that I'm one to go for "not everyone's cup of tea"... especially when I feel like we've already seen the inside of a lot of exam rooms for Cam.

My boss has already shifted 3 coworkers' schedules to accommodate our appointment next week... and now I'm wanting to change it. :(

I would keep the original appointment because it sounds like you need to get in quick but then I would make a backup appointment with one of the other drs in case you don't like the first one. Then, if you are happy with him just cancel the other appt. This way you can get in quick and have a backup in case you don't like him or you need a second opinion.

I would do this as well. He may be better with patients than I give him credit for

  • I don't know anything about the doc, but just wanted send good thoughts to you and Miss C!
