Pediatric Dermatologists?

Hayden has a rash near his mouth that is not going away with OTC hydrocortisone.  Our pediatrician recommended we see a dermatologist, but we can't get in for over 2 more months!!  Is that the norm and I should suck it up and wait, or does anyone have a rec. for a dermatologist that I can get in sooner rather than later?

 Thanks!

Re: Pediatric Dermatologists?

  • Ethan has to see a dermatologist (located in Newnan) and the wait for the initial consultation is quite a long time.  It is around 2 months for a doctor, but if you are willing to see a PA, it's much quicker.  I was able to get him in the first time in 3 weeks to see a PA and since then, we have no issues because he is a regular patient.  Good luck!

  • It took me 18 months of waiting to get an appt for Ava with Dr. Spraker at the Emory Clinic.  Ridiculous!  She's supposed to be one of the best in the city.  I'm sure she is great, but was no help to us and I actually taught her more than she taught me.

A 2 month wait is pretty typical for a new patient at most offices.  You could just keep calling around, or ask to be put on the list to be notified if others cancel earlier.

  • I've taken Finn to my dermatologist, Olansky Dermatology, right over next to Lenox Mall.  I can usually get an appt same day with one of the NPs.

  • Unfortunately Atlanta has limited pediactric dermatologists and takes forever to get an appointment with. Samantha went to see Dr Raymond Caputo. She had a severe rash and blisters on her elbow. We (not the doctor) actually discovered via google that what she has is contact dermatitis. She was allergic to the materials of her car seat and it was burning her skin.
  • I've taken Mia to my dermatologist - Dr. Casey at Hailey, Brody, Casey & Wray, M.D., P.C.  on West Paces Ferry.  No longer than 1 day wait.

  • Dr Caputo's office was able to get us in in less than a week--we just asked to be on a wait list and they called the next day when an appointment opened up that week.  He sees adults too but is known for his specialty in pediatrics.
  • I took Sean to see a regular dermatologist in Johns Creek. I think we waited a little over a week to get in. It was fine and he ended up referring us to a pediatric allergy clinic for allergy testing. Sean's issue was eczema and it turned out to be food related.
