How much does your LO weigh?

Our DS was born 1.5 weeks early. He weighed 6 lbs 9 oz at birth. 4 days later he weighed just 6lbs. at the LC appointment. Then at 6 days old he had gained back up to 6lbs. 5 oz. Last appt he weighed 7 lb 5 oz at 2 1/2 weeks. He is now 4 weeks old and not much bigger. I BF him even though he has had formula 3 times since birth. They supplemented in the hospital due to low heart rate and I have supplemented 2 times at home. I read on here that someone's 3 week old son weighs 12 lbs. It makes me worried that our LO isn't gaining a lot of weight! So how much does your little one weigh?

Re: How much does your LO weigh?

  • He was 6 lbs 13 oz at birth...dropped to 6.6 and when I left the hospital he was 6.8 (I was in there 5 days for c/s). At his first doc appointment he was 7.5 and when I took him to doctor about 9 days later, he was 8.5 DS is ebf

  • Danny was 8 pounds even at birth...dropped almost a full pound, so we began supplementing formula. Ended up discontinuing breast feeding at 2 weeks.

Today at 5 weeks, he weighs 9 pounds 14 ounces.

  • Mine was 4 weeks early. Born at 5lb6, down to 4lb13 at 4 days old when we brought him home. He's a little over 6 weeks old now and he's just about 7 lbs even. So if he were born on his due date he'd probably be 7 lbs at 2 weeks-ish old.

Remember that some babies are born at 10 lbs so they have a lot less to go to make it to 12 lbs than an average or smaller birth weight baby!

  • At 3wks early, she was 7lbs 5oz. Dropped almost a pound in hospital due to being jaundice and not wanting to eat. So, we fed her supplement of formula. She got up to 6lb 10oz at one week, and now at 3wks old, but just now due, is now at 7lb 10 oz. She is only 5 oz over her original birthweight. We BF and supplement formula still.

  • O was born at 6lbs 15oz. When I left the hospital he was 6lbs 4oz and we had to go back the next two days for a billirubun check. When my milk still hadn't come in and he had lost over 10% of his birth weight I started suplimenting and after 2 weeks of low supply and latching issues we went exclusively to formula. He continued to gain weight and I weighed myself today and then while holding him and it looks like he's up to 10lbs give or take because I'm not sure how accurate my scale is. Next pedi appointment isn't until 2 months.

  • 8 lbs 2.6 oz at birth

    7lbs 5 oz at discharge

9 lbs 11 oz at her one month appointment

  • I think it sounds like you are doing a GREAT job!!!  Try not to compare your baby's growth rate to other babys' rates.....each baby is unique and grows at their own special rate.  As long as your ped. is happy with weight gain, that is all I'd worry about!!!  BUT since you asked, my DD is also a slow grower.....6 13 at birth, 6/4 at discharge, ....and now here we are at 3 weeks old and she's only 7lbs!!!  But that is HER rate of growth, she's been weighed each week, and she's consistently growing at her own rate, slowly, but enough for my pediatrician.  Try not to worry :)

  • My DS was born 3 weeks early and weighed 7 lbs 2 oz at birth. He was 6 lbs 11 oz when we left the hospital. At his first pedi appt, he was way down... something like 6 lbs 5 oz. We did some supplementing with pumped BM and formula at that point.

He was doing better at his next 2 weight checks, but then the pedi thought he hadn't gained enough weight at his 1 month check. He was 7 lbs 7 oz. We did the BM / formula supplements again, and he got up to 8 lbs 13 oz at his weight check last Tuesday (6 weeks old). Phew! So now we're back to EBF.

  • My LO was 7.21 at birth, 7.23 at five days and 8.21 at 17 days.

  • our LO was 10 lbs 1 oz at birth, 9 lbs 12 oz at one week and today she was up to 10lbs 9ozs at two and a half weeks. Our doctor said that a .5-1oz a day is good, or about a pound a month, so she's a little bit of an overachiever in the eating department (much like her parents :P). We haven't had to supplement since she's been born, she's a little champ with breastmilk!

  • 8 lbs at birth, can't remember I'm hospital, 8 lb 4 oz at 8 days. That was the last time she was officially weighed.. I weighed myself with her and it was around 9.4 lbs at 3 weeks. We have always supplemented.

  • At 7 weeks, my LO is right at 8 lbs.  He was four weeks early and was 5.3 at birth.  Dropped to 4. 13 at the lowest due to and was back to 5.5 at his 2 week check out.

I'm just glad to be on the charts now for percentile! :)

  • 7.15 at birth and 9.4 at two weeks one day (at today's doctors appointment).  He eats ALL. THE. TIME. so I'm not too surprised.

  • DD was 2 weeks overdue and I thought I'd be pushing out a huge baby but she was only 6 lbs 14 oz. At 6 days old she weighed 7 lbs. We go in for her 2 week check up this week and I'm curious to know how much she's gained now as she already feels heavier to me. I EBF and I swear she eats all day long (well at least when she's awake).

  • Julian was born at 6 lb 12 oz... and at 7 weeks he weighs 12 lbs
  • I don't know if this helps but my children's pedi said it is normal for babies to gain anywhere from half an oz. to two oz. a day on average.  If you are worried about LOs growth checking out a BF support group where a LC  weighs LO before and after feeding can be really helpful and reassuring.

  • I think as long as your doctor is working with you on the weight you will be fine.  Try not to compare too much because every baby and every circumstance is different.  Make sure you are talking with the pediatrician to go over everything.

Maeve was 9 lbs 8.02 oz at birth.

When we left the hospital, she was 9 lbs 2 oz (or close to this)

At the first ped visit she was 9 lbs 1.5 oz

2nd ped visit she was 9 lbs .05 oz

We are supplementing formula with breast now.
