Hospital grade pump versus older Pump in Style?

I have a Pump in Style that is 5 years old now. I have replaced the membranes, valves and tubing, but now I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's wearing out and that is causing some of my sudden supply drop issues.

Anyone rent a hospital grade pump? Did it really make a huge difference in your pumping output? how much of a pain was it to lug around?

Love any thoughts you have on the differences and if it's worth it to try to rent.

Thanks!

Re: Hospital grade pump versus older Pump in Style?

  • I have a 5 year old PISA.  It works fine, but the hospital grade is a big improvement over it.  I rented one with my first baby and I immediately got extra ounces at each pumping.  I rented the symphony last time and it wasn't a big deal to take to work.  I just put it in another bag (it came in a big plastic container I would not want to lug around) and it was fine.  Definitely bigger than the PISA but manageable.

  • I had a PISA but when my supply started tanking around 4 months I rented a symphony from special addition.  I noticed a pretty big difference between the two.  I could pump more and I think it took less time.  Since I mostly pumped at work I would take the symphony to work and leave it in my office for the week.  So I only lugged the thing around twice a week.  I would just use the PISA at home.  For me it was worth it to rent the hospital grade pump.

  • I HATED pumping, and even though I only had to do it once a day, I rented a Symphony for almost the entire nursing relationship. It was much faster/efficient and I could pump more, so I loved that thing as much as one can love a machine attached to their breasts.

  • I started with a Symphony for the first 3 months or so and then switched to a PISA and never noticed a difference.
