Good place to get dresser?

My DD is desperately in need of a new dresser. I don't want to get one at Ikea, because I have terrible luck with the cheap particle board breaking after a few months.

I would ideally like something already assembled. I'm not picky about color or type of wood, just sturdiness and price. I know there are a ton of furniture stores around Southcenter, but I am not sure where to start, as I've never been to any of them. Anyone have any good suggestions for the $200ish price range? (Ie, not Crate and Barrel, PBKids, etc.)

Thanks!

Re: Good place to get dresser?

  • We got a really great one off craigslist. Sometimes it just takes a little looking and pickup. Ours ended up being brand new (the company shipped them two, but they'd already fixed the old one when the new arrived...and the company didn't want to ship back).

We paid a fraction of the cost...but there are always other sturdy dresser options on there. Some baby consignment shops also specialize in furniture.

  • We too got a nice solid wood dresser from Craigslist. I think we paid about 100.00. It was nice and is works great in DS 's room.

Yeah, been surfing Craigslist quite a bit looking the past couple of weeks. I'm a big believer in re-using and refinishing and such. But, the current dresser in DD's room is off Craigslist, and it needs much more work than I can put into it. I was hoping for something that's new and requiring no work...but sometimes you find real gems on CL!

  • I hate to say it...but you might try Babies R Us. They are usually $200 or lower. Our dresser was also sold there (doesn't look like it is now though?). They kind of hide the maker names..but our was Million Dollar Baby. Sustainable wood, Phthalate and lead free, non-toxic varnishes, shipped pre-assembled, etc. It's quality wood, made to last...so maybe buy online or try BRU's current options out?

  • You can get children's furniture at cribs to bunks near southcenter.

They will deliver, assembly, and set everything up for you - for a fee, of course.
