Hanging stockings on fireplace

Does anyone know how to hang the stockings that is safe for toddlers. I have those weighted stocking hooks and she pulled one down and it almost hit her in the head. Any ideas of a safe alternative?

TTC since 6/2003. m/c 9/14/03 8 weeks, 5 chemical pregnancies, mmc 6/04 12 weeks, Michael born sleeping 5/25/05 at 22weeks always our angel, fought ovarian cancer and won, m/c 4/06 5.2 weeks and 7/07 6.6 weeks,Our Miracle baby girl born 4/8/10,mc 12/18/11 at 5.3 weeks, BFP 10/26/12 dating u/s on 11/8/12 showing a strong heartbeat!EDD July 4,2013. RCS on 6/27. Baby boy in NICU for 8 long and scary days before he was able to come home. We are now a happy family of 4

    ours are nailed up.  At wegmans they have stocking clips that kind of hook onto the mantle.

    I never got the big weighted ones because I was worried about the kids pulling them down on themselves. 

    We have those command hooks, they are plastic and stick on to the front of the mantle, you can remove them when done and reuse.  I saw a display at Walmart today.

    Love the new siggy!  Ours are hooks that are screwed in right under the ledge by the previous owners.  But there are only 3, so next year we will have to remove them and put in more in order to have it evenly spaced out.

    Thanks! DH refuses to nail since it's a hand carved mantle but I will try the command hooks. I never gave it a thought this year about her pulling them down.

    We put hooks in under the mantle as well.  They come in handy decorating for other holidays too!

    I have the weighted ones too but stopped using them with the stockings as soon as Justin could reach the stockings.  Now I just put them up there for decoration.  I've been using tape....lol.

    I have the weighted things, but we don't actually hang the stockings until Christmas Eve so I don't worry about it.  I may change that tradition once I splurge for hand knit stockings with everyone's names. I am waiting until our family is complete before I make the investment in those.
