hcg level question

Hi ladies-

I just got a call from my doctor about my bloodwork. She said my hormone level is only at 2, but i haven't had any cramping or bleeding. I haven't had many symptoms at all lately, come to think of it. Anyone know what the level should be at almost 8 weeks? I have to go immediately for another blood test.

Thanks

Re: hcg level question

  • 2 is really, really low... technically, not pregnant at all, as a matter of fact.

FWIW, my HCG levels were about 16,000 at almost 6 weeks. And they're supposed to double every 48 hours, so... by 8 weeks, I think they should be in the hundreds of thousands.

Apologies for the stupid question, but did you get a positive pregnancy test in the past? Do you still get a positive pregnancy test, if you try now? Are you SURE your doctor was talking about your HCG levels, and not your progesterone levels or something like that? (2 is still very very low for progesterone when pregnant, but I do know women who have had levels in that range and have managed to carry to term, after starting progesterone supplements.)

  • My Dr's office wanted my levels to be 20 and over for early in the pregnancy.
Hugs! I hope everything is ok.

All of this. Are you sure your doctor was talking HCG and not something else? Anything below 5 HCG is considered not pg and wouldn't even show up on a HPT.

  • I'm also very confused.  I'd get confirmation right away that that is the actual number, and that they are talking about hcg levels.  At 6w4d my hcg was 55,000.  A 2 would not even be considered pregnant.  I hope you were just given misinformation, or confused about what levels they were giving you.  Best of luck to you.

  • I had 2 positive home tests and went for my first appt this past tues. She said my pregnancy hormone level was 2, and I was at work so I couldn't ask her a lot of questions because my co-workers were around and they don't know. She sounded concerned and told me to go first thing tomorrow morning. Now I'm just thinking that something is wrong and I just possibly haven't miscarried yet. I guess I will find out tomorrow. Thank you for the responses.

I apologize for being blunt. But if something is wrong and you just haven't miscarried yet, your HCG levels would be a lot higher than 2.

When I miscarried, my levels started off at around 3000 -- I was about 5 weeks along. I had to go for weekly blood draws until they got under 5. It took about three weeks from the start of bleeding for my levels to get under 5. So if your levels are already under 5, I'd think that you're at the END of a miscarriage, not the START of one.

If you've really had zero bleeding in the past eight weeks, and you got positive pregnancy tests previously, I'd really be wondering whether there was something wrong with your doctor's test -- whether the results got mixed up, or whether she read the results wrong, or something.

Personally, I would go get another HPT right now, because I'd be dying to know. If I got a positive, I'd know something was up with my doctor's test. If I got a negative, at least I'd know I wasn't pregnant.

Big ((HUGS)) I hope it's all just a mess-up and you really have a very healthy baby in there!

  • whattoexpect.com has the levels...At 7 and a half weeks I was at 111,000.. my doc said under 5= not pregnant.Maybe you misheard or they left off some zeros, or else they should have told you that!
  • I wonder if you progesterone is 2?  That makes more sence to me but it is still not a good number.  good luck

This. If this is the case, then ask about your HCG and if HCG is rising, then ask for a progesterone supplement. You want to know both numbers - HCG and progesterone.
