I was EBF but it was not easy as DD did not have a great latch and I had to use a nipple shield. I then went to BF with supplementing with Formula since my LO never seemed satisfied and was at the breast ALL day! Now I am pumping and supplementing with formula since I am not producing as much as she has been eating.
Although I had my grieving....she is a much happier camper with a full belly on board. I may even just EFF.

I EBFed DD and extended breastfed her through 2 years and 5 months. I'm EBFing DS now and hoping for at least the same amount of breastfeeding so they both get the same head start on life. So far, so good!

That sounds like cluster feeding, which is meant to increase your breastmilk supply. It happens at the beginning when your milk comes in and during growth spurts. The best thing to do is to let her nurse to keep up your supply to meet her demand.

Yes! this is so so important. A friend of mine quit bfing because she thought she wasn't giving her DD enough, but she was really just trying to up her supply!
I had a really rough first 4 weeks with BFing (really rough. we both just sucked at it) but now it's awesome and I love it. I never thought I'd be able to say that, but it's true.
I started off EBF but had to supplement with formula during a growth spurt. Once we did this I actually felt the freedom to realize that BFing wasn't for me. I know its different for everyone, but I hated BFing. I'm much happier now and she's gaining weight like a champ.

i'm doing both formula and bf but dd has been spitting up like crazy and has bad gas and developing bad diaper rash so i'm thinking she has milk allergy just like ds. we're trying soy all day today and see how it goes.

I EBF until she was almost a month old and she just wasn't gaining. We started supplementing with formula on doctor's orders and it was like magic, she starting growing and she hasn't stopped. I still primarily BF, but she usually gets at least one bottle a day of formula.
I know all of the tricks and such from Kellymom to get her to gain, I tried them all. Sometimes supplementing is necessary to get them going. Just had to put that out there - I have seen many posts here that presume supplementing is done out of lack of knowledge or information. I know all about cluster feeding. There are just times when she is not satisfied from nursing alone, even after cluster feeding, and formula or formula and BM mixed does the trick. My supply is just fine (fenugreek kicked in) and she's happy and gaining and that's all that matters to me.

Rocco only gets bottles of pumped breast milk. I was in the hospital for 6 days after his delivery, and part of that spent in the ICU, so I was unable to breastfeed him during that time and he was on formula bottles. Because of that, he really wanted nothing to do with breastfeeding. I'm actually ok with this because he is still getting breast milk, my husband can help feed him, and I had to get used to pumping anyways since I will have to go back to work in January.
I am pumping and supplementing with Formula. DS wanted to feed all day when he was awake. With a toddler that's just not realistic. You can spout all the BS you want about cluster feeding. But I BF for four weeks and he never seemed satisfied. He's still getting breast milk now, but he's so much more content. This just works better for me as I'm no longer scared to leave the house and DH can help with the feedings, which gives me the time to spend with my toddler.
After the first 10 days, DS lost 20% of his birth weight when I was ONLY breast feeding. So on doctor's orders I supplemented after nursing with formula. Then we went to three LC appointments (different nurse each time). DS never had a proper suck on the breast, so my supply suffered even though I fed and pumped. So I pumped and supplemented the first month and now I am done. I pump MAYBE once a day when I feel engorged.
With all the pressure to BF, it makes women who give it a go and fail feel like crap! I did that with my first...but this time the peer pressure hasn't gotten to me!
I started out pumping since DD was in the NICU for 35 days (she's a 31 weeker.) She received breastmilk while in the NICU and they fortified it with Neosure to give her more calories. I continued pumping until she got home just last week. We tried BFing, but it just wasn't for us. She is now getting BM during the day from the frozen stash and formula (Neosure) at night. As soon as the freezer stash is gone in about a week or two, she will be EFF.
I was EBFing until about 6-7 weeks when I realized I wasn't producing enough to satisfy LO at each feeding & started supplementing w/ formula. I just stopped BF all together when he turned 2 months b/c I'm back to work & it got to be to much to try to pump enough for him each day & w/ the twins & other things going on in my life it was getting to be to much. So I stopped BF this past Saturday & he's now just FF & things are going so much better for him & he is actually satisfied after every feeding & happy now.
