Those of you that eat "natural" peanut butter

What brand do you buy?

When I met DH, it was all he ate (wegmans brand) and the stuff made me gag. First, I like crunchy PB (he likes creamy), and I like it b/c it has a saltier taste to me than creamy does. Natural PB does not have any saltiness to me even though it says they put salt in it so I've never found one I like. I was at Target a few wks ago and they had Skippy Natural crunchy PB on clearance so I bought it. I opened it today thinking I'd hate it and it was actually pretty good-it had that salty taste to me so I think I can tolerate it. It just never dawned on me that different brands would taste so different! I swear you could probably put different brands of PB in front of me and I don't think I could tell the difference! Just curious what others eat and if you have any others I might enjoy!

  • Can we add jelly/jam to this question too?

Right now we are using Smuckers Natural pb and Smuckers simply fruit jelly.  The pb only has 2 ingredients - peanuts and less than 1% salt.  I eat a lot of pb since I like to add a few scoops to my ice cream every night plus I usually have it on an english muffin in the morning and with apples as a snack occasionally.  So I figured it was important to get a decent one.  I have no idea if it is a *good* brand though, I am hoping it is decent since according to the ingredients, it is just peanuts, but I don't look at labels enough to really know.

The smuckers simply fruit jelly was one of the only ones I saw at walmart that didn't have something in it - I think the corn syrup or something?  I don't remember. We are almost out of the jar, so maybe I will look at lauries or wegmans for the next jar?

  • I buy the Jiff Natural. I hate cold peanut butter so the stuff that has to be in the fridge is out.

I always buy Polaner All Fruit with Fiber. I get it at BJs in a 3 pk and use coupons. It makes it really cheap (like $4 total). It is juice, fruit, fiber (3g), pectin, citric acid, and natural flavor. They are bigger jars than in the stores too, 15.25 oz each.

R askes for PB&J daily, he gets it about 3 days a week and we go through a lot jars!

  • I used to buy the Skippy Natural (creamy) and I loved it!  It stayed soft and smooth and didn't need to be refrigerated.  But I haven't seen it at Wegmans lately so I've been buying the Smucker's Natural (creamy).  I really like that, too.  It doesn't get too hard in the fridge until I get to the very bottom of the jar.

  • I don't eat much PB, but I buy the Wegmans natural for Evan usually... unless I have a coupon for another brand. DH doesn't like the natural, so I buy him the Wegmans organic crunchy.

  • I buy Wegmans organic natural creamy.  We don't eat a ton of pb so a jar lasts forever but I love it on toast every once in a while.  When DH first started buying the natural stuff, I couldn't stomach it.  Now if I have regular pb I can't stand it- it's so sweet.

  • We use Teddy Bear brand natural peanut butter. It is so yummy and not that sweet. Really, the only reason I tried it in the first place was because the bear on the front of the jar was cute. Embarrassed

  • I buy from the local farmer's market.  My coworker eats the Teddy brand natural and loves it.  When I run out of my current supply I may try Teddy.

  • There was a natural one I loved - Skippy maybe - and then my DD had a horrible allergic reaction so I had to chuck them all :(

But I had tried a natural one that came in a glass jar and I think it was supposed to be refrigerated.  It was TERRIBLE.  It separated out, and it was rock hard after being in the fridge - what am I supposed to do with that?  And the taste wasn't so great either.

  • We buy Maranatha or a locally made product (Saratoga peanut butter company).
