February 2012 Moms

2012 is a leap year...Feb 29 babies anyone?

Do you think it would be cool to have Feb 29 baby? Or lame?

Our LO is due Feb 15. But my DD was more than two weeks late by the time I was induced and ended up with a ECS. Hoping for a VBAC this time, but if I end up having to schedule a CS, I'd totally consider scheduling for Feb 29.

  • My whole life I thought it would be so cool to have a baby on a Leap Day, but how do you actually plan something like that?  Well here I am, a surprise pregnancy and due on 2/24.  I tend to go late so it's a possibility, and I think it's awesome.

My husband is dreading it, he's an IT guy and he thinks it would be a nightmare.  I can't tell you how many times I've heard him say "but most computer programs don't even include that day"

Only time will tell.  Truth is, I'd be totally stoked just to have a baby born in February instead of going so late I'm into March.

I know the feeling! Feb 29 is exactly 42 weeks for me. At that point with DD, I was showing no signs of going into labor on my own, despite trying everything in the book as far as old wives' tales and walking and stuff. I am so curious to see what happens this time. But totally didn't dawn on me that Feb 29 is the absolute latest they'll let me go, and it's a leap year, until just today!

  • My due date based on LMP is the 29th. Based on dating ultrasounds, it's the 25th or 26th(I had one at 9 weeks and one at 13 weeks. When my OB found out where I got the one at 9 weeks, she refused to go off it only to have her dating one say a day before). Anyways, I go with the 26th. I don't want a Leap Day baby. It seems cool in theory but I think it would suck in real life.

  • I do NOT want a leap year baby. but I wouldn't do anything like be induced just to not have one. My dd is2/22 so I could easily have her on 2/29. My 1st child came 10 days after my dd. My 2cnd was induced on my dd for medical reasons. I actually wouldnt mind going into march. I want to get as far away from the cold weather as possible.

  • I think it would be cool!  My due date is the 27th, so its a definite possibility that I could have a leap year baby.  On top of how unique it is, hubby and I joke that it would be a fun tool to use for punishment purposes.....'You better be good, or no birthday this year...' or 'No you're not old enough to take the car, you're only 4 years old!' hehe....

  • I think it would be annoying, however considering my DD was born 3 weeks after EDD, it could very well be a reality for us.

I personally think having a baby on Valentines day would be worse.  I hate that "holiday."

  • My due date is Feb 27th.. so it could happen. DH and I like the idea of a leap year baby. DH has two cousins that were born on leap years. They celebrate their birthday every year, but on the leap year, they always have a huge bash, and I think that's cool. :)
  • my DH did some research into this a few months back. Apparently some hospitals will even ask if you want to move the recorded b-day to the 28th or 1st to avoid some of the hassle that the Leap Year birthday can have.

  • Due on the 20th and do not want a leap year baby. It just seems like a hassle. This is my first so really I have no idea when she'll come, I'm just guessing that it will be later than sooner. ;)

  • I'm due on Presidents Day and baby is and has been measuring to that day exactly.  I'm hoping to actually deliver on my due date (which I know is a long shot)...but then he'll always have a long weekend around his birthday!  Or like my OB keeps saying be the President in 2037:)

  • I don't think it would be a good day for a birthday...I feel like that would suck for a kid...to not have an actual birthday for 3 years before actually getting one.

My uncle is a leap year baby and he does have big parties for each of his actual birthdays, so that would be cool.

  • We are hoping that DD is not late so we don't have a leap year baby!  We are due Feb 18th.

  • Im due ont he 28th so i guess if i were to go into labour on my due date i could potentially end up with a leap year baby! DH and I talked about the potential of it (although highly unlikely as i'm i'm FTM), and decided that we'd just celebrate LOs bday on the 28th each year, and then on the leap year's we'd just have a bigger celebration in light of their "real" birthday.

I don't think it's that big of a deal, and it makes LO a little extra special :)

I'm due on the 27th as well but am hoping for a leap year baby.  I have heard from one guy who was born on leap year and he always celebrates for 2 days which is fun and DH grandma said she knew someone that would let their LO pick their birthday on the years where it didn't appear on the calendar.  I could see how that would be a very fun tradition to start.

  • I'm due Feb 18th, but we've already figured it's a possibility (less than 2 weeks past my due date).  I'd rather leap day than Valentine's day, but given the fact that I'm measuring two weeks ahead, I'm not sure I'd want to go two weeks late!

  • I am okay with having a Valentines baby or even sharing a birthday with baby, my birthday is the 9th. I do NOT want a leap year baby, birthdays are special and I would hate for DD to ever feel like her birthday got skipped some years.

  • For me, it could be a real possiblity since my due date is the 24th.  DH says that if I go into labor on the 29th, I should hold it.  I don't think that is an option though Smile

  • As of right now my EDD is 2/20 but I've been measuring a week behind so we are doing another U/S at my next appointment and my OB said she might move my EDD to 2/27.  If that's the case we could have a Leap Year baby.  DH is a Valentine's Day baby, I'm March 2nd (Texas Independence and Dr Suess's b-day).  DH either wants her to come 2/14, 2/20(Pres Day), 2/29 or 3/2.  I'm really not wanting any of those dates but I'll take what we can get.
